Democrats failed to turn out the voters who propelled them to victory in 2020.

That is in part because Democratic leadership, including President Biden and VP Harris, failed to listen to their core voters who were demanding an end to US support for Israel's genocide in Gaza.

🧵
For months the polling has shown that Vice President Harris was costing herself votes she needed - from young people, women, people of color, and progressive voters - by not breaking with Biden and by failing to call for an end of weapons to Israel in accordance with US law. Image
The majority of Americans do not want their tax dollars funding Israel’s war crimes. The US should ensure Americans can afford healthcare, housing, and childcare, not spend billions on bombs to kill Palestinian families.

It is time for Democratic leadership to listen to and align with the people who power the Democratic Party, and who know the principles of human rights and justice for all must include Palestinians.

Another Donald Trump presidency is a threat to those principles here and abroad.
The movement for Palestinian rights and freedom is not going anywhere. Millions of people in the US and around the world are still demanding an end of the failed status quo, and an end to decades of impunity for Israel’s aggression, apartheid, land theft, and genocide.
We cannot wait until January while Israel continues to use our tax dollars to kill and starve thousands of more people in Gaza. Biden should, in his remaining days in office, finally listen to the American people, follow US law, and cut off weapons to Israel immediately.
When Congress reconvenes next week, the Senate will be voting for the first time in history to block $20 billion of weapons to Israel. Every single Senator should vote to block this illegal weapons transfer.

If you want Kamala Harris to win in November, you should read this thread.

After Biden withdrew from the race, we and @YouGov polled Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Arizona.

The results are undeniable: If Harris calls for an end of weapons to Israel she will gain A LOT of votes.

🧵
Overwhelming shares of young voters say they’d be “more likely” rather than “less likely” to vote for Harris if she pledges to withhold weapons—by a 54-13 margin in Pennsylvania, a 41-17 margin in Arizona, and a 50-10 margin in Georgia.
Among all Pennsylvania Democrats and Independents:

36% are more likely to vote for Harris if Biden secures a ceasefire, while just 3% are less likely.

34% are more likely to vote for Harris if she pledges to stop weapons to Israel, and just 7% are less likely. Image

As Israel’s attacks on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip reach the half-year mark today, IMEU Policy Project offers the five following recommendations to the Biden administration, Members of Congress, and candidates for elected office.

Thread below. 🧵(1/11)
Recommendation 1: End US Weapons Transfers to Israel

The US is failing to enforce the Foreign Assistance Act, which states that no US weapons can be given to a country which engages in a “consistent pattern of gross violations of internationally recognized human rights.”
Rather than abide by its own policies, the Biden administration has repeatedly bypassed Congress to expedite the transfer of weapons to Israel.

No country is above the law and all countries should be held to the same standard. The US must end weapons transfers to Israel now.
