KristallNacht - the day of broken glass - was a pogrom against the Jews in Germany in 1938
The Amsterdam Pogrom came just a day before this sad anniversary.
What happened, and why it still matters today 🧵👇
KristallNacht was a pogrom against Jews carried out by the Nazi Party's (SS) paramilitary forces along with some participation from the Hitler Youth and German civilians throughout Nazi Germany on 9–10 November 1938
The name Kristallnacht comes from the shards of broken glass that littered the streets after the windows of Jewish-owned stores, buildings, and synagogues were smashed.
The attempts to change the narrative of what happened in Amsterdam are sickening!
A short thread 🧵👇 of examples
We'll start with Al Jazeera
The claims go more or less like this:
- clashes between football fans
- violence provoked by Israeli fans "looking for trouble"
- Israeli tore down Palestinian flags
- odious chants by Israelis
- limited clashes with few injured (who deserves it)
Anybody who saw the videos cannot ignore the facts:
- Jews were hunted down
- attackers were organized
- random families, who had nothing to do with the fans chanting, were targeted
- people were run down with cars, beaten with sticks and belts, thrown into the freezing river
Israel has finally passed a law to forbid UNRWA operations in Israel
Why is this so important?
Here's what UNRWA is and what it stands for 👇🧵
TL:DR
UNRWA is a terror organization. Let's break it down
UNRWA is the "UN" agency that deals with the "palestinian refugees"
Why do the palestinians have their own refugee agency, while the rest of the world's refugees are handled by UNHCR?
