1) Being unfairly banned on @Twitter for three and a half years has been strange. There is definitely the feeling of Rubishov that moment the authorities came for him, middle of the night. A self-examination, self-criticism. A psychological feeling that at the same time...
2)...if you were innocent no one would have come for you. You must have some guilt, come on. They wouldn't just lie about it, would they? Rubashov agonized in his cell, equally about those who betrayed (and failed) him and also, believing in the system as part of the system...
3)...that he must have done something wrong. Must be guilty. The Party could not err, therefore there must be guilt. But...perhaps a misunderstanding? If only I point out the obvious mistake, plain to everyone, reason and fairness would triumph and all would be made right.
