With the #BCCI finally releasing the #IPLAuction2025 list – annoyingly one day before I go on holiday thanks BCCI!, I’ve done a little analysis to see what trends the narrowed down auction list is showing us

Firstly let’s see what each of the 10 franchises look like going into the #IPLAuction2025 . PBKS need to build a brand new team with just 2 retained players and 23 slots left to fill. On the other end of the scale RR have 19 slots left and may need to play tactically.

What about the much converted overseas slots? With just 10 overseas players being retained ahead of the auction, there will be 70 overseas slots to fill. As expected SRH have retained more overseas than Indian players #IPLAuction2025

In a great move BCCI have finally gone back to RTM cards, giving teams much more flexibility in their strategies. KKR and RR have none to play whereas PBKS have 4, will they use them right? Important call out is SRH and MI can only use their card on an uncapped Indian player

Which of our teams will be like a kid in a sweetshop splashing the cash? PBKS have a huge 92% (110Cr) of their purse available and will be raising their paddle at every opportunity. RR with just 41Cr will need to shop wisely and have a smart strategy!

The franchise world seems to love an all arounder but actually 35% of those registered on the #IPL2025Auction are actually bowlers! With just 18% being batters, are the out and out batters a dying breed?

Is #IPL2025 a young man’s game or will experience prosper over youth? Well the average age of the players listed in #IPLAuction2025 is actually 27 but we range from 13 🤯🤯year old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi to 42 year old James Anderson!

We saw earlier that there are 70 overseas slots available, which countries do our #IPLAuction2025 players come from? We can see what Australia have 37 with England right behind on 36. Its great to see a Scottish player, 3 Irish and 2 USA in the mix.

They say batters win you games but bowlers win you tournaments, well which bowling type is the most prominent in #IPLAuction2025 ? We can see that there is an abundance (119) of right arm off spinners but just 9 SLA Unorthodox bowlers, will their rarity drive up their price?

We can see that it’s the more rare left arm seamers who average at 92 lakh per player where as the SLA orthodox are actually the cheapest at 51. If teams get their strategy right, they could get a point of difference in their attack at a good price.

So much emphasis is put on left hand right hand combinations but are there enough lefties to go around in #IPLAuction2025 ? Actually 28 % of the total players registered are lefties, could players like Pant, QdK and Ravinda start a bidding war?

Does being a rarer commodity mean our lefties value themselves higher? Well there isn’t much in it but its actually the right handers that are slightly higher at 73.68 as opposed to 71. Lets see what the final prices show us

Looking at just our Indian players registered in #IPLAuction2025 for a moment, which state association produces the most players? Well this shows that the DDCA just shade this with 33 players registered, closely followed by the PCA at 28 players.

With more and more international T20 games are we seeing more capped players enter #IPLAuction2025? The data shows us that 241 are already capped by their country more than once whereas 330 are yet to receive international honours

Looking at the countries whose players have entered auction, is there a specialism that’s more prominent to each country? Taking India out for visuals and we can see here that England have 9 wicket keepers going under the hammer and just under half of the SA players are bowlers.

Do players from certain countries value themselves higher than others? This graph looks at the average starting price by country and clearly shows that NZ have given themselves the premium price tag. Whereas those with low purses might want to look at IRE or USA players

Which countries players – outside of India – have had the most experience in past IPLs? Well it’s the South Aussies who have the most IPL games across their players at 807, will this mean that they command a higher price at the #IPLAuction2025?

IPL experience is one thing but does T20i games equate into a successful IPL stint? NZ players will certainly be hoping so as they have the highest number of caps amongst their #IPLAuction2025 players. SA are the surprise here with just 31 caps per player on average

Digging into the specialism metrics, do certain types of players value themselves higher in the #IPLAuction2025? Well the bowlers have the highest average starting price at 79Lakh whereas the all rounders could provide value for money when they go under the hammer at just 67Lakh.

We know the trend for all rounders is growing but does that mean they are usually younger players? There actually isn’t much in it across the board with all player types sitting around the 26-27 years of age mark #IPLAuction2025.

Is there anything to draw from the average IPL games by player specialism? This graph shows us that that batters actually have the highest average #IPL games at 19 per player and at the opposite end the wicketkeepers have played the least IPL games

Does this translate into T20i games as well? Actually no, it’s the opposite. The wicket keepers actually have the highest average number of T20 games per player at 46 and it’s the all rounders with the lowest at 34. Will this impact #IPLAuction2025 ?

What about when we look at the birth month of the #IPLAuction2025 players? Well its clear to see the cricketers parents like to pass the winter months of Jan-Mar by ‘keeping warm’ and getting a present across Oct to Dec

Now for a little poll, what is in a name as Shakespeare once said? Which of these is the most common surname - or family name – of the #IPLAuction2025 players?

Onto what about the first name? which of these do we think has the most players registered in #IPLAuction2025?
