Gas generators are great as alternative power sources for disaster preparation, but won't always be the most practical option for some, especially if you want something that can potentially charge through renewable sources of energy such as a solar panel and/or need a solution to
run indoors.
This is where the battery backup comes in handy! Here I have a Bluetti EB3A with one of their solar panels to keep it running. It can put out 600 watts, has a number of useful output plugs, and can be charged through a standard wall plug, car cigarette lighter port,
other generators, and solar panels. The LiFePO4 battery is also much safer than traditional lithium-ion cells.
If you get such a unit, be sure to add up the total wattage and usage (in watt hours) for the devices you plan to potentially power with this to select the battery
output and capacity right for you. If you're looking to charge such a unit with solar panels, the rule of thumb to make sure it can charge in one day of good weather is to take the unit's maximum solar input in watts, multiply that by 5, and make sure it's greater than or equal
to the battery capacity.
It's definitely a solid consideration for your backup plan when the lights go out.

Please stop recommending these kinds of weapons for self-defense. There is no substitute for a well-thought out, multi-layered self defense plan that fits within your means. This means at the very least, de-escalation training first and foremost, martial skills,
non-lethal implements, and if deemed useful after careful consideration, lethal implements.
Don't take my word for it, do your own research. Study self-defense cases, and what implements were used, and whether or not they were successful and why. Far too many people are quick to
jump for something they've just heard of or seen without seriously evaluating how they actually perform in application.

Okay, story time. There's an awards ceremony for online firearm content creators that started in recent years called "The Gundies". As with many forms of promotion in this industry, most of my colleagues and I have viewed it primarily as a commercially-focused endeavor (1/19)
for the manufacturers and marketers and thus, I have not historically tracked the categories and results.Regardless, I've been nominated for it three years in a row now. The previous two years, it was for the category "Breakout Creator of the Year". I never won the (2/19)
award, but remained in the running until the closure of the voting window. The previous honors went to legal commentator Guns & Gadgets, impressive youth shooter Autumn's Armory, and most recently, to the noteworthy Ian Runkle, who considers a wide range of viewpoints, (3/19)
I did not think I was going to be writing this a couple of days ago. I didn’t even want to broach the matter of the Nashville shooting because the tragedy immediately became a lightning rod for a bad-faith defense of a specific brand of hateful political rhetoric for (1/25)
which we have had at a steady boil at nearly every reactionary lectern we can turn to. This has inevitably spilled into my own lap as many people have bothered me for my take on this whole situation in the last few days (which was in poor taste if you ask me).
Nonetheless (2/25)
s, I do have some feelings that I’ve been thinking heavily upon. I was going to keep them to myself, but the discourse around this shooting has been awful (as always), and I’m just hoping that by making a statement of some sort, some of my words might offer some food for (3/25)
On this day in 1969, a riot broke out in the early hours of the morning at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. The NYPD, in the process of closing gays bars across the city, raided the Stonewall. For the first time in the city, the patrons, consisting of gays, lesbians, drag
performers, gender non-conforming, and trans folks, resisted arrest and stood their ground. This triggered riots throughout the New York that lasted for six days. This eventually evolved into anniversary protests across the world which to this day became known as our celebration
of pride. I will forever be thankful to our queer elders for forging the paths that we walk more easily on, for the brave souls that put themselves on the line every day to ensure a brighter future for those that follow in their shadow. We truly stand on the shoulders of giants
