1/ The re-election of Donald Trump signifies the violent realignment of American politics with its underlying social reality.

A thread:🧵 Image
2/ This is a society dominated by staggering inequality and ruled by a capitalist oligarchy.

This realignment is expressed not only in Trump’s appointments, but in the Democratic Party’s swift embrace of the incoming regime. Image
3/ Trump cabinet selections for leading positions over the past week are a gallery of reactionaries, multi-millionaires and outright fascists, tasked with implementing a program of dictatorship at home and war abroad. Image
4/ Before I continue this thread, I want to encourage you to join this critical webinar tonight discussing these issues.

5/ Who's in Trump's cabinet proposals?

Oligarchs and fascists like Elon Musk intent on destroying social programs. Image
6/ Trump's cabinet will lay the legal foundations for a presidential dictatorship, with fascistic figures like Matt Gaetz at the helm.

Sauer’s appointment, in particular, underscores the legal foundation for dictatorship. Image
7/ Trump's war cabinet is engineered to escalate US militarism, particularly against China, and to deepen support for Israel’s genocidal campaign against the Palestinians. Image
8/ Trump's cabinet, including figures like Stephen Miller and Thomas Homan, will seek to orchestrate a massive assault on immigrant workers by deploying the military on US soil. Image
9/ The assault on public health will be lead by the anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist RFK Jr and Jay Bhattacharya, a frontrunner for the NIH.

Both are proponents of unrestrained “herd immunity” policies in relation to COVID-19 and other pathogens. Image
10/ Trump and his advisers are moving rapidly to consolidate unlimited power in the hands of the White House, in line with the interests of the oligarchy.

More than 800 billionaires in the US now control a staggering $6.2 trillion in wealth. Image
11/ A social system characterized by such vast social inequality is incompatible with democratic forms of rule. The structures of political life are being brought into alignment with this social reality. Image
12/ This class realignment is not only evident in Trump’s actions, but also in the rapid acquiescence of the Democratic Party following the election.

In a meeting with Trump at the White House, Biden pledged to ensure that he has “what you need." Image
13/ The Trump administration will face enormous opposition, but it will not come from the Democratic Party. Image
14/ The real opposition will come from the working class, which is the central target of the Trump regime.

But it needs a socialist strategy. Image
15/ Join us tonight at 8PM EST to discuss the second Trump administration, the role of the Democrats, the role of the oligarchy and the need to build a socialist movement.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has issued a throughly hypocritical statement posturing as a critic of the Democratic Party. Sanders has a long history of channeling social anger behind the Democratic Party.

A thread. 🧵
2. From his initial political career as mayor of Burlington, through his long tenure as a US Senator, through his two presidential campaigns, Sanders has postured as "left," while supporting ruling class interests and US imperialism. wsws.org/en/articles/20…
3. In the 1990s, Sanders backed the "human rights" imperialism of the Clinton administration, including actions targeting Iraq, the US intervention in Somalia, and, most notoriously, the NATO bombing of Serbia.

1/ These are the basic issues the Democrats and Republicans aren’t talking about in the 2024 US elections.

A thread: 🧵 Image
2/ With Election Day less than three days away, the 2024 presidential race is laying bare the reality: both major parties are driving the United States and the world toward catastrophe. Image
3/ Behind the conflicts between the Democratic and Republican Parties, Trump and Harris are dedicated to shared goals—a capitalist agenda of war, inequality, and dictatorship. Image

1/ A thread: 🧵

The ongoing COVID-19 #pandemic has revealed the profound failures of the capitalist system in the United States and internationally. The pandemic exposed a #healthcare system in deep crisis, starved of resources for years, and subjected to the whims of profit-hungry corporations. #2024electionImage
2/ Nearly 1.5 million people have died in the US alone, and tens of millions more continue to suffer from the long-term effects of the virus. Globally, over 27 million excess deaths have been recorded since the pandemic began, and every day an additional 6,000 people die from COVID-related causes.

The Socialist Equality Party (@SEP_US ) is the only party in the 2024 election that offers a scientifically grounded and socially progressive program to combat the pandemic, rebuild the healthcare system on socialist foundations, and defend the interests of the #workingclass.Image
The capitalists have only prioritized profits over public health.

TOMORROW at 8PM EDT, I will be discuss these issues and more with @JerryWhiteSEP and @TomHallSEP on "The Class Struggle, Capitalist Crisis and the US Elections"

🧵1. At the Holocaust remembrance event today, Democrats and Republicans joined hands in exploiting the tragedy of the Holocaust to justify US support for the the genocide in #gaza. Here Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson compares students protesting the genocide to Nazis.
2. Johnson outrageously compares the cultivation of Nazi ideology in Germany universities, encouraged by the state and ruling class, with the protests against the ongoing massacre of Palestinians, which have been met with brutal police repression. wsws.org/en/articles/20…
3. Both Biden & Johnson declared that universities have become hostile environments for Jewish students. In fact, many of those protesting are Jewish. Jewish students have not been threatened by protesters, but rather arrested and beaten by police. wsws.org/en/articles/20…

1. Israel’s assault on #Rafah has begun. Some 1.7 million Palestinians have been driven to the southern city and now confront a coordinated assault. Who knows how many are now being slaughtered?
2. Hamas accepted ceasefire deal earlier in the day. Israel rejected it, and now, with US supplied bombs, diplomatic and political support, they are carrying out "final solution" of Palestinian question.
3. In advance of the assault, Israel shut down the operations of broadcaster Al Jazeera in Israel. This was clearly an effort to prevent information of its crimes from being shown to the world. wsws.org/en/articles/20…

🧵1. The arrest Thursday of more than 100 students at Columbia University for protesting the US-backed Israeli genocide in Gaza is an outrageous attack on democratic rights. wsws.org/en/articles/20…
2. As the Socialist Equality Party candidate for president, I call for a mobilization of the working class to defend the persecuted youth and demand that all measures taken against them be revoked.
3. The students were participating in an entirely peaceful protest in an area designated for this purpose. Columbia President Minouche Shafik first suspended them and then invited the New York police, decked out in riot gear, to arrest them for “trespassing” on their own campus.
