So, for those who're interested I figured I'd put this together to give you all a better chance at survival during disaster.
We'll begin simply by listing the main needs of a good prep.

Food, Water and Shelter.

We'll start off with Food as that's the easiest of the three.

Obviously there are many ways to get food. Hunting, Fishing, Farming, and the most unfortunate, theft.

Of course currently you can saftely go buy what you need from the store, mose folk do this every week.

But for prep? Things get more complicated.

We need to think in terms of time.

Short term

Long term

Short term food during a disaster can be meat from a freezer or cupboard. vegetables that have been harvested.

Anything without a 'shelf life' that spoils is considered short term, and should be the first to go.

Shelf life brings me to Canned and Dried Goods. A prepping standard.

Most canned goods will last a minimum of 3-4 years on your shelf despite the best by date on the tin.
Some canned foods, if the can is unbroken and unrusted can last for upwards of 10-20 years.

Now we move on to long term food.

While this can include canned food, it is important to know that this refers mainly to self Sustaining food sources. Farming and Hunting fall under long term food preps, and can be bettered by learning your own storage methods.

As an addition to this 'Food' section. Learning to cook and prepare meals is a must.

You're gonna hate yourself if you don't like your own food.

Salt and preservatives are important for future storage and seasoning.

Make sure you have dried herbs and spices.

In the case of nuclear war, don't worry about your canned and wrapped food becoming 'radioactive'.

Radiation in this manner is only spread by radioactive particles.

Why radiation is even used to disinfect sealed cans on production lines these days!

Now we move on to Water.

The elixer of life, water is one of the most important things to Prep for.

Having bottles of water ready is good for the Short term. But water filters will be needed for long term survival.

A simple sedimentary filter is alright for long term survival, followed by simply boiling the water afterwards to remove any remaining bacteria.
Purchase water filters and water purification tablets exist, and even a small(very small) amount of bleach can make it drinkable.

When it comes to water that has been tainted by radioactive particles, an Osmosis water filter is usually the best, passed through multiple times.

If any of you have ever had a salt water tank, you may already have one of these.

In addition, knowing where available sources of water are in your surrounding area, or where you plan to move in case of danger.

Look for surface and ground water maps.

Typically a swampy area will have a high water table for example.

Now we move on to Shelter. Simple structures to keep you safe from the weather and environment.

Anything from a tent to a nuclear bunker would be considered a shelter.

Always consider where you would shelter, the strength of your shelter. And whether it may be occupied.

Thinking about where you will shelter before hand is key to proper survival.

In harsh weather like extreme heat or cold, the rule is that you will not survive longer than 3 hours unprotected from the elements.

That covers the main three catagories for preperation.

Implimentation may involve stocking these things a home or near your Bug Out Zone.

I'd recommend keeping a Bug out Bag with some of those essentials as well in case you need to run within minutes.

For Nuclear war additions, make sure to ready clothes that completely cover the skin and face.

A gas mask and filters is a necessity until you leave danger zones, as well as a Qeiger counter to tell you where those zones are.

Shelter underground or as far away from-

The walls of your shelter as possible, Radiation works the same as your phones reception, the more between you and it the less can get to you.

Anti Radiation medication is a must for prevention. The only commercially available being Potassium Iodide and Prussian Blue.

Potassium Iodide is a Preventative, Or for those who've played fallout, Rad X.

Should you accidentally intake any radioactive particles(Not wearing a mask for example) It will prevent them from entering your thyroid and killing you.

Prussian Blue, is a more active antiradiation drug focusing on removing Cesium and thallium particles from the body.

A warning, it does this by giving you the shits. Funnily, it also turns your poo blue.
