Trump said he wants transparency. Releasing these files would satisfy those who think the FBI was involved in MLK's assassination. There would be some 'proof' to that conspiracy. 3/7
Possible. No one knows. What is far more likely is that the surveillance recordings and reports would reveal MLK to be an unsavory character completely at odds with the myth. No liberal is prepared for that. 4/7

Note that the scholar who combed the archives wrote an article that no one would touch. These are the same media outlets that publish flimsy article after flimsy article. Why didn't they? To protect the myth. This would be a body blow. 6/7
MLK's statue would stand, but it'd be stained. The other myth that there was an era of good progressive front men would be shattered. Trump could play dumb about this, releasing the file per law and never expecting such a reveal. Per lib rhetoric, an abuser is an abuser 7/7
