Imma try to keep this brief but quick history lesson... this specific rhetoric is literally how the Nazi party rose to power. I studied abroad in Berlin and learned a lot about the Weimar Republic which I had never even heard of before. They don't teach it here on purpose (1/?)

Ok spark notes -- world war 1 is happening, millions of german men are away fighting and women take their place and start working factory jobs. Before, women's fashion (think of all the long dresses/corsets) were mostly conservative and meant to hide a woman's legs

During the war, women began wearing pants while at work and by the end of the war and into the early 1920's, pants were popularized by Coco Chanel and while they were seen as promiscuous, became very trendy. During the Edwardian and Victorian period, it was trendy for women --

to have super long hair (random pix from google). When you think of flappers and their super short bobs (bubikopf), note that this was a massive shift. Furthermore when you think of flapper dresses, note how they were shapeless, hid one's waistline/chest and showed legs

This alone had men in an uproar. They complained frequently in newspapers about how they were confused by their attraction towards women with similar haircuts and clothes as them. Here's an old political cartoon from Berlin in 1926 describing the "modern couple"

There was a rise in conservatism, mostly pushed by men, calling women variations of whores and harlots and reminiscing of their behavior/mannerisms before the war. Now keep following we gotta go back further in German history to bring the gays into the equation.

In 1897, the Scientific Humanitarian Committee was created as an institute for LGBT research and studies. They advocated to repeal anti-lgbt laws, recognized a 3rd sex existed, distributed pamphlets/newsletters, defended gays in court, advocated to raise the age of consent --

had an entire library of lgbt research/books, and offered low and no cost treatment INCLUDING sex change surgery. The institute successfully advocated for "transvestite certificates" which German police began issuing in 1908 which allowed people to legally "cross dress"

It required a doctor's note but was liberally distributed. Throughout the 1920s, there were about 170 gay/lesbian bars and clubs in Berlin alone. Over 100,000 Berliners were openly gay during this time and there was a large movement for LGBT rights

The Eldorado was one of the most popular gay bars in the city but the kicker was, it was owned by Jews. This furthered the opposition's resistance and all the "gayness" that had been thriving in Berlin was pinpointed on Jews. It was the Jew's fault that everyone was gay --

and burned down the institute. 4 days later, over 20,000 books from the institute were burned in Berlin's Opera Square. Survivors were taken to concentration camps which had only begun opening 3 months previously. From 1933-1945 an estimated 100,000 gay people were arrested

Of those, 10-15,000 were sent to concentration camps where the majority died. Between 1945-1969 another 100,000 people were arrested for homosexuality, including holocaust survivors. No reparations for holocaust victims were given to survivors convicted with homosexuality

SOOOO if you made it this far thank you, we're almost done. I'm going to connect this thread back to the modern day where we're at in the US. So the Weimar period is marked by the end of WWI and ends with Hitler becoming chancellor. Again, the only reason I personally know this--

But "in depth" gay history started with Stonewall. We definitely did not learn about how common gayness was in Weimar Germany, the clubs, that they were some of the first targets, early sex change surgeries. They didn't really give us in-depth reasons why Jews were hated so much

And the parallels to today's times were not made. I grew up in an affluent area and there were many wealthy Jews but also literal white supremacists. Swastikas were commonly drawn on the walls and we were locked down multiple times bc of written death threats to blacks and jews

I'm not jewish but everyone trying to dunk on Jews for their involvement with gayness and promiscuity would have a field day researching the crimes and isms of Christians and Catholics. And that dumbass jewish feminist infographic doesn't have a single black woman on there

I said I would TRY to keep it brief but obviously Weimar/WWII is a massive topic and I covered half a century as short as I could. Digestible education is arguably more important than university-level education bc the average person isn't actively studying these things

Gay people have always been around, being homophobic is a thousands of years old trope and you're never going to be able to make people not gay! No one is giving your kids hormones or surgery at school and no one is making them gay, propoganda is beating yall asses
