Saline Rinse Reduction in Hospitalizations: A study conducted between September and December 2020 observed that twice-daily nasal irrigation with saline in individuals aged 55 and older led to a hospitalization rate of less than 1.3%, compared to 9.47% in a similar demographic reported by the CDC during the same period. This suggests that saline nasal irrigation may reduce the severity of illness and the need for hospitalization.

"We found an 8.5-fold reduction in hospitalizations and no fatalities compared to our controls," says senior author Dr. Richard Schwartz, chair of the MCG Department of Emergency Medicine. "Both of those are pretty significant endpoints."

"The reduction from 11% to 1.3% as of November 2021 would have corresponded in absolute terms to over 1 million fewer older Americans requiring admission."

Saline Rinse & Gargling for Viral Load Reduction: A multidisciplinary review indicated that saline nasal irrigation and gargling could reduce SARS-CoV-2 nasopharyngeal loads and hasten viral clearance. The proposed mechanisms include improved mucociliary clearance and potential inhibition of viral replication.

"Saline nasal irrigation and gargling in COVID-19: a multidisciplinary review of effects on viral load, mucosal dynamics, and patient outcomes" (June 2023)

"Substantial evidence was found in vitro and in vivo in support of SI use in COVID-19, also emerging from observational and randomized studies irrespectively of saline being the main intervention or reference/placebo in the study. As an international network of investigators with substantial clinical and research experience in saline use for several respiratory diseases and SARS-CoV-2 infections, we, therefore, propose to include rinsing the nose and throat with saline as an early intervention to prevent, and relieve symptoms of, SARS-CoV-2 infection: It is easy-to-use, inexpensive, safe, and feasible at every age."

The U.S. response to the H5N1 bird flu threat is unacceptable. Its potential to circulate with COVID-19 could trigger a catastrophic pandemic, far surpassing COVID's impact alone.

Urgent action is needed to prevent human-to-human transmission before it's too late.
