In 1779, Canova moved to Rome, the heart of classical art. Here, he was influenced by the ancient sculptures, leading him to develop his signature Neoclassical style.
Canova's apprenticeship with Giuseppe Bernardi and Giovanni Ferrari honed his skills, leading to his first major commissions, including the statues of Orpheus and Eurydice for the Villa Falier at Asolo. These works, completed in 1777, earned him recognition among the Venetian elite.
