I was supposed to start a job on Monday for an org which is currently being picketed by its own staff bc they’ve been silencing pro-Palestine views. After I signed the contract, they saw my socials and said the offer was rescinded bc I did not seem “enthusiastic” about the job.
Admin sent a single email on Thursday. They have not responded to my calls or emails. I spoke with attorneys there as well as their union chair who were all shocked by this. None of them were told of the nature of admin’s decision. Obviously this has been a horrible experience.
I don’t really know what else to say. I think people who dislike me already will say it’s deserved because I said “part of me wants to sell all my things and buy a van” in passing two weeks ago. I also said I was happy to be rejoining the ALAA. It’s genuinely shitty.

Let's talk about the bill Congress just overwhelmingly passed on bipartisan lines in less than a week that controls what applications you are able to use online:
180 days after this act is passed, the Secretary of Commerce is authorized to enforce (180 day clock from start of any review) "any mitigation measure" on any person or entity that is a "covered transaction." What is a covered transaction?
A covered transaction is on involving:

foreign gov
foreign company
a US owned company

Ran into one of my former clients today. Unfortunately they’re back on the street after losing access to housing we had secured for them. I got them into something temporary for the next few days. I am telling you this because I want you to understand how hard it is out there.
In December 2022, there were 68,884 homeless people, including 21,805 homeless children, sleeping each night in New York City’s main municipal shelter system. A near-record 22,720 single adults slept in shelters each night in December 2022.
The number of homeless New Yorkers sleeping each night in municipal shelters is now 39 percent higher than it was 10 years ago. The number of homeless single adults is 112 percent higher than it was 10 years ago.
