Document from Hillary Clinton’s State Department emails:

“The best to way to help Israel deal with Iran’s growing nuclear capability is to help the people of Syria overthrow the regime of Bashar Assad…It is the strategic relationship between Iran and the regime of Assad in Syria that makes it possible for Iran to undermine Israel’s security.”Image
Page 2:

“Libya was an easier case…[but] the Libyan operation had no long-lasting consequences for the region. Syria is harder. But success in Syria would be a transformative event for the Middle East…the region would be changed for the better as Iran would no longer have a foothold in the Middle East from which to threaten Israel”.

“Washington should start expressing its willingness to work with regional allies like Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar to organize, train and arm Syrian rebel forces…Then, using territory in Turkey and possibly Jordan, US diplomats and Pentagon can start strengthening the opposition. It will take time.”

“Victor will not come quickly or easily, but it will come. And the payoff will be substantial. Iran would be strategically isolated, unable to exert its influence in the Middle East. The resulting regime in Syria will see the United States as a friend, not an enemy…And a new Syrian regime might well be open to early action on frozen peace talks with Israel. Hezbollah in Lebanon would be cut off from its Iranian sponsors since Syria would no longer be a transit point for Iranian training, assistance and missiles.”

“America can and should help them [Syrian rebels] - and by doing so help Israel”.Image

🧵Keir Starmer's secret war on Gaza🧵

In a series of parliamentary questions, the Labour govt reveals the extreme secrecy under which it's participating in the Gaza genocide.

1. Labour refuses to say how many Israeli military planes have landed in Britain since it took office. Image
2. Labour refuses to say if it is allowing the US Air Force to use British bases within the UK and around world to fly weapons to Israel. Image
3. Labour refuses to say how many applications it has approved for the use of UK airspace to fly weapons to Israel. Image

Sadiq Khan is a member of the British-American Project (BAP). Of course.

BAP was set up w/ US embassy funding in 1980s amidst CIA concern about leftward drift in Labour.

It’s been funded by BP, BAE, Monsanto. Alumni includes Paul Wolfowitz. Background👇

Our new book SILENT COUP is published today and should be available across all outlets.

It tells the major story of our time: how corporations cannibalised the states that created them—and rendered democracy a hollow shell.

You can buy it here: shorturl.at/efgL7 Image
As European empires crumbled in 20th century, the power structures that had dominated the world for centuries were up for renegotiation. Yet instead of a rebirth for democracy, what emerged was a silent coup against its very core—the unstoppable rise of global corporate power. Image
We started work on the book in 2014 as fellows at @cijournalism and travelled to 25 countries across 5 continents, from Palestine to El Salvador to Cambodia.

I'd recently left the Financial Times, and Claire the Guardian. We both agreed this was the major story of the time. Image

Saudi Arabia is among most horrific dictatorships on Earth—and since 2015, its war on Yemen has, purposefully, turned the country into a living hell.

Since the destruction of Yemen began, 5 major UK papers have taken Saudi regime money to produce and publish propaganda for it. Image
To my knowledge, not 1 journalist at any of those papers has ever publicly denounced their employers taking Saudi blood money.

Could Putin count on such obedience from Russian regime journalists if their media outlets started receiving money from Assad’s Syria? Doubt it.
Britain’s private school system breeds a special kind of obedience to power.

If our media elite were working in Putin’s Russia they would, undoubtedly, be going along with the war on Ukraine, like they do with Yemen.

Power, and their relation to it, is the salient variable.

My latest for @declassifiedUK 👇

Northwood Headquarters, a military base in north-west London, is home to Nato’s Maritime Command (Marcom), the central command of all its sea operations.

Marcom’s British commander Keith Blout has operational command of all Nato's standing naval forces.
574 foreign personnel from 29 countries are deployed with Nato in UK. A quarter are American.

Turkey, whose military is occupying northern Syria, has 35 military personnel located in UK w/ Nato.

3 non-Nato nations—Sweden, Austria, Finland—have personnel deployed w/ Nato in UK.
