It has been quite the year, so as a distraction from all that here are my WTF TV news moments from 2024 ✨
1. When Sky News revealed the General Election exit poll and just came out with weird noises.
2. When @peter_levy accidentally launched a new feature on BBC Look North called “How Big is Your Hole?”
3. When @KawserQuamer was asked what she was up this weekend and accidentally revealed too much
4. When @BBCMaryam impersonated a seagull on the BBC News Channel.
5. When Sky News reported an unexpected escalation in the farmers’ protests.
6. When Clive Myrie randomly asked Labour’s Angela Rayner about chickens an hour into the BBC’s Election Night coverage.
7. When Sky News thought interviewing Lib Dem leader Ed Davey on open water would be a good idea.
8. When BBC London News didn’t work properly so @AliceBhand had to run to her desk.
9. When @ChrisMasonBBC didn’t know where to stand at the start of the News at Six
10. When @BBCMaryam’s autocue was having a bad day.
11. When BBC North West Tonight introduced us to a Cuckoo Cock Collection.
12. When @Peter_Levy tried (and failed) in getting away with some innuendo 
13. When Jeremy Hunt was mentioned on ITV News and yep… you guessed it.
14. When BBC News Channel didn’t realise they were on air.
15. When Sky News didn’t know what time it was.
16. When Radio 1 Newsbeat had quite the text about Storm Henk.
17. When BBC Scotland’s Calum MacColl broke into a song at the start of a weather forecast.
18. When @RhonddaBryant quoted the Sugababes during the State Opening of Parliament.
@RhonddaBryant 19. When Grant Shapps MP rang up Sky News and then hung up on them.
20. When Emily Maitlis did not like what Nadine Dorries had to say about Boris Johnson during Election Night.
21. when @BBCMaryam missed her cue at the start of a bulletin...

(still, could have been worse.)
22. When @JeremyVine accidentally said that he was bisexual because he was writes with his left hand and plays tennis with his right.
23. When GB News broadcast the two minute silence and it went as well as you would expect from them.
BONUS: When Radio 2 made quite the song choice at the end of a trail for the BBC’s D-Day coverage.
24. When @BBCBreakfast introduced us to "the second biggest bore in the world"
25. When ITV News had to issue this quick clarification.
26. When the weather presenter was supposed to say the newsreader’s name....

...but she ended up saying “Channel Islands,” where the forecast was for.
27. And finally...

“Netflix to reveal for first time how many people watch its shows in the UK”!!! theguardian.com/media/2022/oct…
Netflix is to join the audience measurement system BARB, which means that we can finally see how popular their shows are compared to shows on traditional TV channels.

They made a promise back in 2019 - and they’re following through with it.
Why are Netflix doing this?

* They are launching an ad-supported model, so they need to have transparency so that advertisers can be convinced to part with cash.

* When Netflix have a really big show, it'll now be obvious. Their shows will also make BARB's Top 50 shows.

The One Show won’t be airing this evening.
I understand that Celebrity MasterChef won't be airing on BBC One tonight as the contestants were making a dish to celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
