Thread: A concerning trend of revenge operations in #Syria 🧵
This thread provides context on what's unfolding on the ground, NO justification.
1/ For days now, there have been alarming reports of individual revenge actions targeting those directly involved in #Assad’s system.
2/ According to multiple sources, these incidents are not aimed at ordinary soldiers in the Assad army but at key criminals and informants responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Syrians.
3/ While these acts are directed at perpetrators, they remain troubling because they occur outside the framework of any justice system, undermining the rule of law.
4/ A grim example is the announced execution of Jalal al-Daqqaq in Hama. He was implicated in the killing of over 200 Syrian detainees, feeding their throats to a lion he used to have, showing Assad's machinery of repression and cruelty.
5/ On the Syrian coast, revenge operations have targeted individuals who devastated communities, killed civilians, or informed Assad’s security forces about opponents, even relatives of dissidents, leading to arrests and disappearances.
6/ These revenge actions underline the chaos of a transitional phase. Moving from governing a small area like Idlib to managing an entire country like Syria creates gaps in leadership and opens the door to mismanagement and violations.
7/ Without a central leadership, local communities have taken "justice" into their own hands. But this decentralization has fueled dangerous acts of retribution.
8/ Trusted sources from minority sects, Alawites on the coast, Ismailis from Salamiyah, and Druze from Sweida, confirm that these revenge operations are not ethnically motivated.
9/ Instead, these are individual actions by local fighters and civilians seeking to balance the scales of justice based on their personal suffering and considerations. While understandable, this spiral of violence must end now.
10/ True justice must urgently come through legal systems, not personal vengeance. Syria's future depends on building a unified, lawful, and fair society. This chaos cannot define the transitional period, but it's a risky indicator.
11/ Accountability, healing, and reconciliation must replace revenge. Syria deserves better than continued cycles of violence.

1/ Within grasp the character of Al-Jolani and Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), many skip straight from the beginning to conclusions, ignoring the four pivotal stages of the group’s evolution.
2/ Al-Jolani’s defining trait is pragmatism. He is now forced to present a positive model of governance, his project’s survival depends on it from the international community and the revolutionaries.
3/ Many analyses overlook the context of HTS’s development and its evolving strategies, both in HTS media representation and actions on the ground.
1️⃣ I’ve noticed several European and American outlets framing the ongoing events in Syria as purely about “jihadist groups.” This Islamophobic narrative oversimplifies the reality on the ground.
Let’s break it down ⬇️🧵
2️⃣ Yes, HTS leads the battle today, and there is an Islamic character to their fighting. But this framing erases five other big military groups, including defected officers and soldiers from Assad’s army with extensive experience who originally joined the revolution for freedom.
3️⃣ The truth is simpler: most fighters are revolutionaries displaced from Aleppo, Hama, and their countrysides. They’ve lost homes, families, and everything else. Their fight today isn’t about creating Islamic states or caliphates. It’s about a free Syria.
To clarify the arming dynamics in the current battle: HTS operates large military manufacturing factories tailored to localized, close-range engagements on Syrian fronts.
‼️This 🧵 explains the need to better understanding of the map to avoid conspiracy theories or assumptions.
These aren’t advanced weapons but rather mass-produced arms supplied by HTS Military Manufacturing Corporation, fueling the operations we see today.
HTS funds this industry through multiple sources:
Taxes on civilians (and some NGOs).
Revenues from border trade with Turkey.
Local oil companies like the HTS-owned Watad Company.
Illegal people smuggling.
Rebel forces continue their advance for the 2nd consecutive day of #DOA operation, announcing the capture of two new towns, Arnaz and Kafr Bisin, while ongoing operations secure the areas taken yesterday western #Aleppo, #Syria.
(7:20am Damascus time)
A renewed heavy aerial bombing campaign by regime forces targets AlNayrab tow, eastern Idlib.
DOA Military Operations Room has opened a new front against regime forces, advancing toward Aleppo from the east of Idlib city. This is in addition to yesterday’s front, which concentrated on areas extending from the opposition-controlled western Aleppo countryside.

Ground updates will be posted under this thread 🧵 !
After more than six years of the indirect conflict between Assad forces and the Syrian opposition (HTS, SNA), a new battle called “Stopping the Aggression” was launched this morning along axes in Aleppo’s western cs.
Since early morning, Idlib has come under heavy fire from Assad forces and Iranian ground troops, supported by Russian aircraft. The death toll has already exceeded seven civilians.
On the other side, news about HTS has made some progress on the ground after years of stagnation in the territorial control map. What’s confirmed is: So far, HTS has managed to capture a tank from Assad’s forces.
