What will happen to a country with more young men than young women due to sex-selective abortions?
Korea, China, India, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Montenegro, and Tunisia are the countries with the strongest preference for boys in the world.
According to a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) in 2019, between 23 million and 46 million girls in these 12 countries have disappeared without birth due to sex-selected abortions since the 1970s.
Korea, one of the 12 countries, seems to be currently experiencing consequences of sex-selected abortions. As a Korean, I will briefly tell you the impact of sex-selective abortions on Korea.
'Gyeongsangbuk-do', which is considered one of the fastest disappearing regions in South Korea, is an area that actively carried out sex-selective abortions a few years ago.
In Gyeongsangbuk-do, the sex ratio is 1.33 for those in their 20s and 1.77 for those in their 30s. In short, if there are 100 women in their 20s, there are 133 men in their 20s.
This sex imbalance is not helping to keep the region sustainable. According to Statistics Korea, Gyeongsangbuk-do saw a 53.5% decrease in the number of births and a 32.1% increase in the number of deaths from 2012 to 2022. During the same period, the total population decreased by 8.4%.
Busan, another area where sex-selective abortions were severe, is considered the first metropolitan city to disappear. Busan is a famous city called the 'second city' in Korea, but population collapse is unlikely to be avoided.
According to the data released by Lee Sang-ho, a researcher at the Korea Employment Information Service, Busan has a small population of young women. Busan's population aged 65 and older accounts for 23%, but women aged 20 to 39 account for only 11.3%.
Busan is expected to see a quarter of its population fall by 2050 and more than half of its women population aged 20-39. On the other hand, the population aged 65 and over is expected to increase by two-thirds.
And these sex-selective abortions have made it difficult for young men to find a partner.(Of course, this is not the only reason for the problem)
Dudley Poston, professor emeritus of sociology at Texas A&M University in the U.S., said, "Up to 800,000 men born in Korea from 1980 to 2010 will find it difficult to find a marriage partner."
In fact, Korea has more men in their 20s than women in their 20s in all areas except Seoul. This is not irrelevant to the fact that many areas except Seoul are on the verge of extinction.
So many young Korean men define marriage with Korean women as the 'wrong answer.' Instead, they provide money to women in poor countries and then marry them.
The problem is, these men's misogyny is at a very serious level. They think that Korean women should be disenfranchised and suffering in Korean society because they are the ugliest and worst creatures in the world. We are solving social problems caused by low birth rates with misogyny.
They also argue that the use of Korean women is only defined as a 'sex toy' and should not be recognized for any more value. (But they harshly criticize Korean women for not having sex, dating, marriage, or childbirth.)
* Considering your mental health, I haven't uploaded a photo that contains a serious level of misogyny.
I wrote a few things related to Korean misogyny, and many people didn't know about it. And some people thought that sex-selective abortions only existed in China.
But sex-selective abortions, in addition to China, existed in several countries where women's rights were weak or patriarchy was severe.
Is sex-selective abortion really the right thing to do? This affects the population decline of the country and intensifies misogyny. Not mentioned above, women who have become minority groups due to sex-selective abortions are also hard to speak out in society. This may be a sad thing.

🇰🇷 Jordan Peterson is also considered a feminist in south Korea. Why is that? As a Korean, I will give you a very, very personal opinion. It's not an academic opinion, so please read it just for fun.
First of all, the fundamental difference between Western incels and Korean incels is that the form of misogyny is different. In the West, there was a form of misogyny in the past, in which men protected women and women obeyed men. It seems that women were treated like possessions
as men monopolized wealth, power, good jobs and positions. But there was no chivalry in Korea. In the Joseon, there was a spirit of scholar. The scholar aims to achieve success by studying his studies at home. But this career was a very difficult one.
