Remember the Lahaina Fire, when feds sealed off the area for months? Every quack here said that a billionaire with an outsized presence on the island was behind it. Well...turns out they were right. But it wasn't Oprah's fault. It was Elon Musk's fault...🧵
Many people are learning how dangerous EVs are when it comes to fires. Thermal runaway in a lithium battery leads to explosive vehicle fires that are impossible to extinguish. While a typical vehicle fire can be extinguished in seconds, a Tesla will burn for up to 24 hours, and firefighters have to run water shuttles to nurse the thing with thousands of gallons of waters until the battery fully de-energizes.
On Maui, there is a disproportionate amount of Tesla PowerWalls and EVs, and when the fire burned through, it left a veritable ocean of compromised lithium batteries, still loaded with energy, ready to explode at any moment like a ticking time bomb.
All of these Tesla products are a primary reason why the recovery process was so tedious and extended. Authorities had to painstakingly extract every battery cell, cautious of spontaneous thermal runaway, then take them offsite to be de-energized, then shipped to Nevada for processing.
At the time, when the Feds sealed off the hazardous area to protect residents during the tedious process of removing Tesla products…people like @nicksortor were stoking baseless theories that the government was blocking residents from returning home as part of a clandestine cover-up of thousands of missing kids. “WHAT ARE THEY HIDING!?!?!” The reality is that everyone is lucky that they can even rebuild in Lahaina instead of it becoming a Superfund site. "Stay tuned", they say...but do they follow up with the banal truth?
EVs are terrible for the environment, and a lot of Twitter journalism is terrible for the news environment, particularly when it comes to wildfires. When the fire broke out, the prevailing narrative with Lahaina was that Oprah fired a space laser on the town and nuked 2,000 kids. These drive-by “journalists” drop these bullshit headlines, everybody gets enraged about a big cover-up, and then they never return to the subject to correct the lie…leaving everyone riled up, angry at firefighters, and fully convinced of some crazy bullshit.
No the death toll was not in the thousands; it was 102. No, DEWs didn’t cause the fire; downed power lines did. No, the Feds weren’t blocking access for a cover-up; they were protecting residents from walking into an explosive toxic waste site…not to mention the fact that you don’t want retards from Twitter storming in with their Osmo to snap video of the remains of all the poor souls who lost their lives in that devastating fire.
Does FEMA suck? Of course. But they’re just dumb bureaucrats mired in red tape. They’re not covering up Oprah’s holocaust. They’re trying to manage the mess left behind by all the toxic Tesla products in the fire zone. But the lie travels halfway around the world before the truth gets his pants on, and these online grifters NEVER return to the scene of the lie to set the record straight. They just move on to their next bullshit grift, and ask “what do you notice???” about gratuitous footage of the next tragedy. Rinse and repeat.
Teslas are fun to drive. But they’re terrible for the environment. Get ‘em if you like ‘em, but don’t fool yourself into thinking you’re helping the planet. You’re not. Ironically, many people in fire country think that buying more Teslas will magically change the weather make the wildfires stop…but it’s in fire country where a Tesla is most hazardous. If these EVs get exposed to saltwater, they explode. If they catch fire, they don’t stop. And if you have a Tesla PowerWall in your home and a wildfire rolls through, you ain’t getting access to your property for months. Keep that in mind, Malibu.

114 years ago, today, the most consequential wildfire in history blew up right here. Today, we are in Wallace, ID on the anniversary of the Great Fire of 1910...ground zero of the fire, and site of the legendary Pulaski Tunnel...but the facts of this fire are simply unreal...🧵
1910, back in the "optimal climate", was the driest year in memory. Transients, loggers, homesteaders, and *especially* trains had sparked hundreds of fires in the tinder-dry forest. Then on August 20th, hurricane force winds blew it out like a nuclear bomb.
The winds were so strong, they ripped burning trees out by the roots, and tossed them across canyon like matchsticks. 400' flames pushed sideways like a blowtorch. In 2 days, the fire burned 3M acres, with most of the damage done in just *6 hours*
