This evening I got to experience one of the most amazing moments of my life. I went into Michelangelo’s Secret Room. For those that don’t know, this is a room in the Medici Chapel basement where Michelangelo hid out, away from his enemies in 1530. While in the room, he drew all over the walls. The room was discovered in 1975 during renovations. They restored the walls and just opened it to the public. Getting tickets to this is near impossible. Eren and I booked them months ago. They only allow 4 people in at a time, and you get 15 minutes to look at the art. It was a truly emotional, beautiful and memorable time. Below are the pictures of the Medici Chapel and video and pics I took while I was in the room. Enjoy.
The room is very small. Much smaller than this pic depicts. No ropes, no glass. Just you in the room with his drawings.
Some of the drawings are very faint, others are really dark and you can see clearly what he was doing. This video captures the entire room.
These are some still photos of Michelangelo’s drawings.
This was the most incredible experience I’ve had while living in Italy. Truly blessed that I was able to get tickets and spend 15 minutes in Michelangelo’s Secret Room!
