This strange artifact was found in a field in Alabama in the 19th Century

Initially, it was thought to just be some random art

But new research shows it contains the Key to PROVING a connection between the Mayan Culture and the Mississippian culture

Why in this thread 🧵🧭Image
Image
This new research is from Anthropologist
@CamHMcConnell

The motifs, details, symbols, and angles on this calendar disk were painstakingly discovered by this brilliant man Image
The symbols on the disk show similarities to motifs in Mayan and MesoAmerican culture

This evidence is pretty strong, but still circumstantial

The twin serpeants, The hand and eye, the corn tails, all point to Mayan Culture

But the real evidence is in the details Image
The Calendar is connected to a ritual called the "Green Corn Ceremony"

Apparently allowing the keepers of the calendar to have TWO corn harvests a year

The introduction of this culture in the Mississippi coincides with the introduction of Corn cultivation in Meso-America Image
Through planning planting and harvests around the astronomy inherent in the Rattlesnake Disc, adherents to this religion, notably the Maya (known as People of the Corn) the people could harvest vast amounts of Maize

Here is how it works and how it proves the Mayan-Mississippi Connection
The center of the Rattlesnake Disk is skewed 9 degrees, which could be a mistake, but upon inspections seems to be intentional

This 60 degree angle represented here is the exact angle you see the sunrise on the summer solstice

The 9 degree offset shows WHEN the calendar was created, as this is offsets for the Earth's tilt on its axis, to locate the North Star (bear with me here, Cam explains this better than me)Image
Image
The two snakes on this disk resemble the Hero Twins of Popol Vuh, found throughout Mayan Culture, including Chichen Itza

One with chevrons, one with stair-stepping pattern

Also notice the tail tips, that appear to be corn kernels

Quetzalcoatl is the God of Corn Image
Vega and Cassiopeia on the right and left sides of this image respectively

Lined up with the disk, the ends of the tongues align exactly with these stars, and the center with the north star, offset of course

This combined with the 60 Degree angle orients an individual in the night skyImage
Image
Calendar Maps to Visualize the connection Image
Image
Additionally, the Calendar Disk reveres rattlesnakes.

Rattlesnakes are known to live in Corn Fields and eat pests that harm the corn. Image
There is more evidence of this, and explained better by

This includes connections of this same math in the megaliths of Mesoamerica

486 American Indians in a mass grave.

But the year is ~1325. Pre-European.

What happened, and what it tells us about life before contact in North America - thread🧵 Image
Even today, some people assert that Europeans brought the concept of total war, not true

The site of the massacre was found in the 1950s, reported on in 1978 by the SD Archaeological Society

The Famous Wounded Knee, by comparison, was *only 150-300 people Image
While we don’t know who, or exactly when, the attack occurred

We know that the village was preparing expanded defenses in the form of a ditch, expecting an attack

The village abutted a cliff, providing an easier line of defense but also no possible escape Image

This woman is uniquely 0.01% ambitious and determined

Top tier Ballerina then MIT

But she dedicated herself to.... a Crypto Gambling

A sign of a suffering culture when our brightest use their talents on such things
Crypto Gambling does not produce anything in the real economy

It uses resources while being a fun distraction and activity for users AT BEST

And at worst it destroys the entire lives of a small but significant (because of the damage done to these people and their partners/children etc.) portion of users
In a room of 10,000 random people you'd be unlikely to find someone more capable than her

And she channels that energy into creating a hyper efficient and lucrative scheme

That is a NET NEGATIVE on society

Are you a fan of ethnic slurs?

To make you a more informed slur-enthusiast, I am bringing you the History of all your favorite slurs

Starting with my favorite - WOP! Thread 🧵

(I'll even tell you where p*jeet) comes from Image
Wop comes from the Italian word "guappo"

Meaning "bold, showy" - An American slur for Italian-Americans

....If you've met any Italian-Americans the reason is self-explanatory

It can be combined with another favorite of mine to make a rare compound-slur Image
MICK - for Irish and their descendants across the English world

These bog-dwelling Celts earn the slur from the popularity of the name amongst them

Apparently not from the common "Mc" prefix on Irish last names

Merged with an Italian, they make a McWop Image

A century Before Columbus, a fleet of 300 ships sailed from China

Over 30 years & 7 voyages, they visited Africa, Asia, India, & the Middle East

By the time Columbus sailed the Chinese fleet was burned or left to rot. The records destroyed. Why?

Thread 🧵🧭 Image
Unlike Columbus, the Eunuch Admiral Zheng did not seek discovery, Gold, or Conquest

He was tasked with projecting Chinese Maritime Power and engaging in diplomacy/trade with tributaries & Distant Rulers

30,000 sailors, diplomats, officials, & soldiers sailed with him Image
The Treasure Fleet was 300 ships strong, the largest boasting 9 masts, 4 decks, and a length of ~400 ft

The fleet dwarfed any European Navy of the time to a laughable extent. Image

Seven NEW Archaeology Discoveries of 2024

Stuff just keeps getting older

Thread 🧵, my favorite one from the Amazon at the end (Percy Fawcett & Francisco de Orellana vindicated)

But first, Peru Image
But first, a Peruvian throneroom

Before the Incas the Moche thrived in Peru.

Archaeologists believe the throneroom belonged to a female ruler, ~700 AD

Also in Peru, an old find was expanded... Image
New Nazca lines just dropped!

303 New designs found, adding to the already 400 discovered

Kind of look like aliens. Image
