Hello, friends! I've temporarily returned to Twitter because "Crime Watch" has tweeted just one time too many about Abigail Wolters and it's time to let you know you have a REAL choice in a #SD60 special primary you may not even know is happening Tuesday!

LET'S THREAD (1/25) 🧵 CRZ selfie from last Friday at Neon Night at Can Can Wonderland
First of all: are you a Minneapolitan living in Northeast, Southeast or Cedar-Riverside? Or a student at the U or Augsburg living nearby? You MIGHT be one of those people who can cast a vote TOMORROW, Tuesday, January 14th in the Minnesota Senate District 60 Special Primary! Senate District 60 overlaid on top of a map of Minneapolis showing the neighbourhoods which will be voting on Tuesday
If you've heard about this race at all, it's probably been on the DFL side, and with good reason — this district is about 80% DFL and has been under one party rule for seemingly forever. Whoever wins the DFL primary is all but guaranteed to win the general election on the 28th.
And yet, somehow in Minnesota there's still one other party granted "major party" status and they too have a primary to determine a candidate for State Senate. This one — the GOP one — is the one your boy CRZ decided to jump into in the 4 o'clock hour on New Year's Eve.
"CRZ," you are not saying, "I really didn't think of you as a Republican!" My friend, were you also not saying you DID think of me as a Democrat? You probably didn't think about it at all — with good reason! Why on earth would we have ever talked about this?
I can't say I really have felt an affinity to either party for ... well, ever. I last caucused for Ron Paul in 2012 for the GOP, which went surprisingly well at the local level and disgustingly insulting at the national level. Since then, I've grown up a bit (also, not at all)
Unfortunately, the way this primary was set up, to declare as a minor party or independent candidate, the option to just pay a hundred bucks' filing fee in lieu of gathering the minimum 1,000 signatures wasn't available.
And gathering a thousand petitioners, given a NINE HOUR filing period, just wasn't gonna happen for ANY candidate of ANY affinity.
This particular election presents a unique situation where I could actually take the oath promising to vote "for a majority of the GOP candidates in the next general election" since I am trying to be *100%* of the GOP candidates on the January 28th ballot! The affirmation from the Candidacy Affidavit — highlighted is the bullet point "If a major political party candidate, I either participated in the party's most recent precinct caucuses or intend to vote for a majority of that party's candidates at the next general election"
Remember that flip comment I made earlier about 80% DFL in SD60? One of the groups looking for money from me, ActiVote, posted this breakdown of SD60: 81.8% DFL, only 6.5% GOP, 11.7% Independent. Do we believe it? Just for fun, let's believe it. A ring/pie graph showing the breakdown of DFL, GOP and independents using the numbers in this tweet
Aside: isn't it FUN that there was no way for independents, who may outnumber Republicans 2 to 1 in this district, to have representation in this primary unless some "independent" did some mental jiu jitsu to entered the race anyway?
With so few Republicans even in the district, combined with general lack of awareness of Tuesday's election, it wouldn't take too many independents (and/or mischief-making Democrats) to sway this race towards one GOP candidate or the other.
I hope long before this point, you're kind of seeing where I'm going here.
My opponent in this race is quickly becoming a perennial candidate, having most recently run two months ago against Rep. Noor for House 60B coming short by a mere 66 percentage points. Those who would say a ham sandwich could manage 15% should note this is only two points higher Image
There's also a distressing reticence on my opponent's part to publicly state that (listen up, everybody because I AM saying it here, now, again)

**Joseph R. Biden Jr. won the 2020 American Presidential election!**
Also, the whole thing with "Crime Watch" posting just too many times about how great my opponent is. That in itself should be disqualifying! Rest assured, "Crime Watch" feels.... well, quite differently about me. And I take this news with great pride!
So... let's say you're an independent looking for somebody to vote for. Or hey, maybe you're hardcore DFL but you don't really have a faaaavourite out of the seven folks running Tuesday but really enjoy creating chaos and annoying "actual" Republicans!
The top vote getter from each of the two parties face off in the general on the 28th (where you are free to vote DFL with a clear conscience, should you so desire).
But on the 14th, tomorrow, you'll get ONE primary ballot with ALL nine names on it. Think about filling in the bubble next to my name and throwing the GOP race to me! Image
I figure there'll be about 13 ballots cast on the GOP side in SD60, so I only need another 6 of you to come through!

But seriously, I do think this race may be decided by insanely low numbers. Your vote may never be more crucial in determining the outcome of a primary! Senate District 60 map from Minneapolis Vote shows all of the Ward 1, 2, 3 and 6 precincts that make up the district.
I've probably gone too long in this thread. If you're interested in learning more, I'm on Bluesky and have a Facebook page set up at , you can also email me (sd60@CRZ.mn) and I'll set up the "Vote CRZ" hotline really soon nowfb.com/CRZ460
I'll try to tweet some more interesting stuff today and tomorrow but honestly, I'm done with this place and hope you'll join me on Bluesky.
One last thing. What if I DID win the general and WAS elected senator? Could you imagine? I can kinda imagine. It'd look like this! Pie graph shows a senate makeup of 33 DFL, 33 GOP and one CRZ
But don't think of me as a lone swing vote, think of an entire Senate made up of *67* swing votes!
