🚨 THREAD: Immigration and Crime 🇩🇰

Denmark may be a small country, but it publishes the most fascinating crime statistics in Europe: convictions by origin (≠ citizenship).

👉 Here’s a summary in 12 striking visuals of these figures accumulated over 10 years ⬇️

A quick preamble:

👉 The most "astonishing" visuals are 2, 3, 8, and 12

👉 Definitions, e.g., "Western origins," are provided at the bottom of the illustrations

1⃣ In Denmark, offenders are categorized by origin rather than nationality.

👉 Immigrants and their descendants (i.e., children) account for 40% of convictions for homicides, rapes, and violent robberies, despite making up only 12% of the population ⬇️

2⃣ Children of “non-Western” immigrants are even more involved in delinquency than the immigrants themselves.

Here are the conviction rates, revealing the failure of assimilation:
🟢 “Native” Danes: 2.6%
🟠 Non-Western immigrants: 5.1%
🔴 Their children: 5.9% !!

3⃣ The more violent the aggression (excluding crimes), the higher the conviction rate of descendants of non-Western immigrants compared to their parents.

👉 Up to 2x higher for attempted homicides, with a rate FIFTEEN TIMES that of "native" Danes ⬇️

👉 The "rebellious" sentiment also increases from one generation to the next.

Descendants of non-Western immigrants have a conviction rate nearly 3 times higher than that of their parents' generation for "offenses against public authority."

4⃣ With more detailed granularity, Danish data highlights specific origins that are particularly involved in crimes and offenses, as shown on this map: Maghreb, Near and Middle East, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Africa ⬇️

5⃣ Conviction rates vary significantly by origin. Taking “native” Danes as the baseline (1), the following conviction rates are observed:
👉 Maghreb: 3
👉 Rest of Africa, Afghanistan/Pakistan: 2
👉 Western Europe: 1 (same rate as native Danes) ⬇️

6⃣ The gaps are even greater when it comes to physical violence⬇️

👉 The conviction rate for individuals of African origin in assaults is 5 to 7 times higher than that of "native" Danes!
But that's not all... ⬇️

7⃣ The conviction rate for individuals of Sub-Saharan African origin for rape is a staggering FOURTEEN TIMES higher than that of "native" Danes.

👉 Maghrebi and Afghan/Pakistani origins are also notable, with rates around 8 to 9 times higher ⬇️

8⃣ Frequently requested, statistics on tax fraud do exist in Denmark.

👉 They reveal that Maghrebi and Pakistani individuals are particularly overrepresented in this type of offense, with conviction rates 4 times higher than those of "native" Danes ⬇️

9⃣ The figures for "serious tax fraud" confirm the trend.

👉 Maghrebi and Pakistani individuals are undeniably overrepresented, with conviction rates up to 8 times higher than those of "native" Danes ⬇️

🔟 Finally, have you ever wondered who stole your bike?

👉 Danish statistics provide a clue: while "native" Danes remain the majority of offenders, individuals of African and Romanian/Bulgarian origins are significantly overrepresented ⬇️

1⃣1⃣ What is the impact of the higher crime rate among individuals of immigrant backgrounds on overall crime and offenses?

👉 A simple calculation shows it accounts for no less than 20,000 convictions annually ⬇️

1⃣2⃣ Over the past 10 years, immigration has had a decisive impact on crime trends in Denmark:

👉 The conviction rate among native Danes has been declining, which should have led to a reduction in the number of convictions.

❌ Yet, this has not been the case... ⬇️

👉 The combined increase in the immigrant-origin population AND its conviction rate has led to a rise in the number of convictions for crimes and offenses ⬇️

⚠️ Of course, crime and delinquency existed long before non-European immigration.

👉 Individuals of immigrant backgrounds remain a minority among the convicted, just as the convicted are a minority among those with immigrant backgrounds ⬇️

However, Danish data once again illustrates the link between immigration and insecurity.

Visual 12, highlights the extent to which immigration impacts the evolution of crime and offenses in a country, even over just 10 years ⬇️

🚨 Furthermore, it is crucial to consider that the challenges of assimilation do not concern only immigrants but also (and perhaps especially?) their descendants, as evidenced by their higher conviction rates ⬇️

These two facts should necessarily be considered in debates about the regularization of undocumented migrants in sectors facing labor shortages.

A temporary solution to a workforce issue could contribute to insecurity for decades to come.
