This is so bizarre that I honestly thought it must be some sort of deep fake.

Jess Phillips in the Commons 9 Jan debate on VAWG seems unwell, drunk or on drugs.

But no, it is real!

Hansard - Jess Phillips' bizarre reply to a question in VAWG debate on 9 Jan 2025:

As for Jess Phillips' low dig at Alicia Kearns:

I've no love for Kearns BTW, who is capable of equally bizarre performances:

Sue Reid, Journalist doing some myth-busting.

This fits with the Telford Inquiry, which was also at pains to dispel these myths.

"There were two lies about a child like that, about a family like that, that were put out.

"The first lie was that all the girls were feckless. That is the biggest lie of all. Many came from hard working decent families, working class and middle class, some owned chains of grocery stores for instance. And so that was a lie."

2/5
"The second lie was they were in care. They had been taken into Care by Social Services, who said to their parents - the parents went begging,

"Please help, my child's missing".

🧡 "Let Women Speak" by SnacKcanS

Nearly got all the lyrics! Great song ❀️

It's a Party Of Women
no it is not for the weak, shut up and let women speak
it's a party of women
no it is not for the weak, shut up and let women speak

1/10
it's time that you departed
space is only women (. . . ?)
it's not for the cold hearted
people you don't need to know

2/10
take your flags away, get out of their face
leave women alone, give them more space
can't you see that what you're doing is sad
say it together, "Why you all so mad?"

I don't understand why some people don't get this.

"Male" is appropriate sometimes.

Many times though it is used when "Man" and "Men" would be better.

I remember when women were arguing that we could let men have "woman" because we had "female".

1/6
However, almost immediately lots of men were saying they were female.

It was also safer to say "male" on social media, Mumsnet, etc. because you were less likely to get banned than if you said "man".

It feels like we have got stuck in that mindset.

2/6
For the avoidance of doubt I will say it again:

Sometimes "male" is more appropriate.

I do not think it is "language policing" to ask that we think strategically.

We need to get back to "man" and "woman" meaning what they have meant for millennia.
