🚨 THREAD : Immigration in Norway 🇳🇴

👉 Less known than Sweden for its immigration issues, Norway also has its share of striking statistics regarding immigration and crime.

Let's deep-dive in this new thread 🧵⬇️

Immigrants and their descendants are overrepresented among crime suspects in Norway.

While they make up 19% of the population, their share of suspects is very high:
🥷 27% of all offences
🔪 34% of violent offences
👮 28% of breach of public order
🚗 30% of traffic offences ⬇️

👉 And this is not about immigrants being younger than the native Norvegian population.

Look at the numbers for the 15-24 men: immigrants and their descendants are still significantly overrepresented ⬇️

👉 Certain citizenships are particularly overrepresented among those suspected of crimes and offences (e.g., Africa).

👉 In contrast, populations from many countries (e.g., East Asia) exhibit suspect rates comparable to or even lower than those of Norvegians ⬇️

Let's look at violent offences specifically.

We see here the same pattern as for overall crime data ⬇️

🚨 These statistics highlight an alarming observation:

👉 The descendants of immigrants are even more involved in violence than the immigrants themselves ⬇️

👉 This is especially true for descendants of African immigrants.

A marker of particularly difficult integration ⬇️

👉 Here are the crime rates of young men aged 15 to 24 implicated in acts of violence based on their origin:

🇸🇴 For every 1,000 young Somali immigrants, there are 270 implications.

🇫🇷 For every 1,000 young French immigrants, there are only 15 implications ⬇️

👉 The same observation applies to descendants of immigrants: populations from Africa and the Middle East are particularly involved in acts of violence ⬇️

To conclude, let's look at the rates of young immigrant men implicated by origin, for different types of offenses.

👉 In the total of crimes and offenses, Somali immigrants stand out clearly, followed by Syrians and Afghans ⬇️

👜 In thefts, Somali immigrants dominate significantly, with an implication rate 5 times higher than that of native Norwegians born to parents born in Norway ⬇️

👊 In acts of violence, Somali immigrants are once again far ahead, followed by Syrians and Afghans.

It is worth noting that Filipino immigrants have a lower implication rate than "natives" ⬇️

🔞 But for sexual offenses, it's different. This time, it is Afghans who stand out particularly ⬇️

🚙 Surprising data: In road offenses as well, Syrian and Afghan immigrants are particularly overrepresented, while Filipino immigrants are underrepresented! ⬇️
