WILDFIRE SPECIAL SESSION UPDATE: Today I introduced a wildfire legislative package which will cut bureaucratic red tape to help FIREPROOF our state. These are 3 common sense proposals that will protect our communities and the environment from future wildfires 🧵:
EXEMPT Wildfire Prevention Projects from CEQA (ABX1-7): It takes months or years to receive CEQA approval for wildfire prevention projects. According to CalFire we have 16 million acres of VERY high risk areas that need immediate brush clearing. tinyurl.com/56jj63ar
EXEMPT Controlled Burns from CARB (ABX1-8): It doesn’t make sense to worry about the smoke from small controlled burns when the alternative is massive wildfires that omit up to 20 years-worth of climate change gases we’ve worked hard to reduce. tinyurl.com/ydynaeaj
EXEMPT Powerline Undergrounding from CARB (ABX1-9): Undergrounding makes electrical power safer and more reliable. Right now the work around is to shut off the power every time the wind blows. That’s not a solution. tinyurl.com/377v54xd
These three bills are common sense measures to get bureaucrats out of the way of fireproofing our state. @GavinNewsom talks a lot about cutting red tape; I urge him to support and sign these bills quickly. tinyurl.com/3uzn92cj

For everyone saying this is not a time for blame, this is exactly the moment that the people who have been responsible for the mismanagement of California's fire policies be held accountable.
Our governor has been obsessed with holding a special session to "Trump-proof" CA, when he should be focused on FIRE-PROOFING our communities.
Here are a few hard facts about the democrat-run state's failures to address fire prevention:
In the 1950s the average timber harvest in California was around 6.0 billion board feet per year. Today, that number has dropped to ~1.5 billion board feet per year.
California’s forests, which cover a third of the state, are now choked with nearly 163 million dead trees. calmatters.org/explainers/cal…
California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and other regulatory policies limit the ability of local government and fire management services to clear dead trees and vegetation. (This is a big deal and prevents much of the controlled burns we desperately need.)
Multiple bills, including AB 2330, AB 1951, and AB 2639 were rejected by the democrat-controlled Legislature or vetoed by the Governor that would have exempted wildfire prevention projects from CEQA and other permitting issues.
I just introduced a bill #AB1314 which will require schools to notify parents when a student is actively identifying by a different gender. Unfortunately, this bill is necessary because schools are instructing teachers to conceal this information from parents.
Children are the domain of their parents, not the government. Schools cannot decide what information should or shouldn’t be shared with parents. Trans minors are higher risk for depression and suicide. More than 50% of trans minors have considered suicide.
@NPR reported trans minors are less likely to feel depressed with parental support. Keeping parents in the dark is not just wrong, but dangerous to these minors. npr.org/2023/03/01/116…
