I have been thinking about what protest and resistance should look like in the Trump era and I think I have it figured out.
We need to turn the tables on Right Wing Media and flood their channels with truth relentlessly.
Here is what I mean
First of all, we need to realize right now that the old methods of protest will not work.
Filling the streets with signs and shouts will do nothing. If anything, Trump wants it because he can respond with police and try to look tough
And don't even get me started on acts of resistance that hurt normal working people like shutting down highways or blocking airports.
That nonsense will make enemies of everyone of our allies.
Where Republicans have an advantage is a massive media ecosystem that has millions of people locked into a Fox News Cinematic Universe.
The entire way they see the world is shaped by that universe and for the most part, Democrats have ignored it, to our detriment.
Democrats have always tried to take some fictitious moral high ground that makes it seem like going on Fox News is an endorsement of Fox News.
We need to cut that crap out. The best way to protest Trump is to get our message everywhere, ESPECIALLY on right wing news.
So what does that mean for the Democratic Party?
They need to flood conservative channels with Democrats. Get Pete Buttigieg on Fox News every freaking night.
Get Bernie doing NewsNation town halls.
Get Josh Shapiro on Ben Shapiros show.
AOC on Rogan
Get them everywhere.
Every member of Congress should make it a goal to get on every local conservative radio show as often as possible.
Learn to take some punches and learn to dish them out.
Conservatives, for all their flaws, are usually very open to this. Look at Jessica Tarlov on Fox News. She is there every night and is probably the only Democrat most MAGA folks ever actually listen to.
She needs help, though.
We need to flood the zone with people like her
Use the Conservative apparatus against them. Put people on all the time, even if you lose a debate here and there.
Because if we actually believe our ideas are better, and they are, then we can survive and thrive in scrutiny
So what does that mean for you and me?
It means we can't retreat to our own bubble.
It means no Blue Sky. It means no silly moral stands against Twitter or Face book or whatever.
It means we need to flood their channels with truth. Stand up for what you believe in and don't back down.
Be willing to trade rhetorical punches and be relentless in pointing out when and where the GOP is wrong because it will be a target rich environment.
The GOP is winning because the GOP controls the means of communication.
But, their weakness is they love a good fight...so we should get in the ring.
Stand tall on their turf, not the streets, and start making a strong effective argument for our cause.
One addendum. Algorithms are driven by engagement. If I post and ten conservatives reply to disagree with me, then my post will be seen by more conservatives.
The more people who respond, the more the post is seen.
You hack the algorithm by getting Conservatives to respond
To put it another way, you get the honey when you poke the bear.
You draw attention to your ideas when you disagree with them to their faces--especially in an algorithm driven information economy.

Let's talk about what a second Trump admin will look like. In particular, let's focus on the regulatory environment.
This will be the most impactful change Trump will make but it will also be the hardest to see.
Trump has already promised that, as President, he will fire thousands of career public servants and replace them with cronies.
Of all the things Trump is proposing, this is the most scary because the implications are so big. Especially now that he has "immunity".
This means every manager in the IRS, the FBI, FCC, etc will be led by an unqualified crony whose only loyalty is to Trump and whose only goal is to make Trump happy.
This creates an insane perverse incentive to turn every agency into an enforcer of Trump's every whim.
Alright, let's talk about the Republican Outrage de Jour
The Value of Mar A Lago
Republicans are furious that a judge, who found Trump guilty of rampant fraud, stated that Mar A Lago is only worth $18M when Trump actually thinks it is worth hundreds of millions.
But....
If you actually read the judges ruling there are two key points the Trumpists are conveniently skipping:
1. The value of Mar A Lago was set by the County tax assessor, not the judge
2. The assessed value of the Mar A Lago was based on certain restrictions.
RESTRICTIONS
Understanding the restrictions is the key.
When Trump bought Mar A Lago, he agreed to maintain the existing building and keep it as a commercial club.
These restrictions severally limited what Trump could do with the property and forced him to assume massive maintenance costs
On paper, he is the perfect Republican candidate. Young. Veteran. Ivy League pedigree. Former Congressman. Governor of a swing state he turned solid red.
He should be a no brainer for the GOP. So why is he struggling?
Some ideas:
1. The guy is just awkward.
The delivery of his speeches is best described as a whiny staccato. And his retail politics are somehow even worse. He is just not good at the one-on-one interactions that win you donors, help you in media interviews and ultimately persuade voters.
2. His comms team is terrible
His strategy has clearly been to stay above the fray and avoid criticizing Trump as much as possible and let his army of very-online trolls attack Trump and his supporters.
