5:17 PM, 30 Jan 1948, Birla House (New Delhi)

Gandhi was on a fast till death from 13 Jan 1948 to pressure Indian govt to release payment to Pakistan

That day he met to Vallabh Bhai Patel and reached Birla House 10 mins late to attend his scheduled meeting at 5 PM

Little crowd was there and very little security was there despite of an attack had already happened on him on 20th Jan 1948

He began his walk to prayer location by walking with Manuben to his right and Abha to his left, holding onto them as walking sticks

Godse in khaki dress stopped his way with folded hands

Manuben thought that the man wanted to touch Gandhi's feet. She pushed the man aside saying, "Bapu is already ten minutes late, why do you embarrass him".

Godse pushed her aside so forcibly that she lost balance n fell

Godse took out his Beretta M1934 9mm bore semiautomatic pistol n fired

Manuben heard four shots and there was smoke everywhere and she saw Gandhi fell in lap of Abhaben and there was blood everywhere

Nathuram was successful in fourth attempt
Yes it was not his first attempt

In May 1944, Nathuram attempted to assassinate Gandhi with a knife but failed

In Sep 1944, Godse again led another group to block Gandhi's passage and this time He was arrested with a dagger and he uttered threats to kill Gandhi

But his most brutal attack was on 20th Jan 1948

20th Jan 1948, Birla House

Gandhi was giving a speech
Godse reached there with his group and throw a bomb on isolated place
Plan was crowd would run from there from bomb explosion and Gandhi would remain alone and then they would kill him by second bomb and same happened

But

Alleged accomplice Digambar Badge lost his courage and cud not throw second bomb

All of the assassination plotters ran away, except Madanlal Pahwa.

He was arrested by Police and he exposed entire plot to Police

So two things were confirmed
1. these guys were amateur

2. Police was well aware of this plan that Godse is trying to assassinate Gandhi

During 20th to 30th Jan, Police got 60 opportunities to arrest Naturam Godse But Police didn't arrest him

Herbert Reiner Jr was an American army officer n was sent to India as diplomat

Herbert also came there to attend Gandhi's prayer, He reached there at 17:00

Manuben didnt see Godse firing on Gandhi since she was pushed by him n she fell on ground, she just heard four shots

After shots everyone was shocked

There was smoke everywhere, No one could understand what happened everyone was shocked including Godse but there was only one person who surprisingly didn't go into shock n that was Herbert

Herbert immediately caught Godse n pushed him on ground and handed over him to Police

One BBC Journalist Robert Stimson was also there
One American Journalist Vincent Sheean was also witnessed this assasination


Gandhi didnt die at spot
He was not taken to hospital, he was taken to residential Unit of Birla house and he was alive there

Gandhi died at 5:40 PM

He asked for water there
Nehru reached there at 6 PM
Three bullets were shot on him and his injuries were not fatal
No post mortem conducted on Nehru's instructions

Next day all global newspaper published similar story
"A Hindu killed Gandhi"

Gandhi's death was used as a great marketing event in all over India

Infect Nehru and Congress proved biggest beneficiary of Gandhi's death

Nehru was not top most leader of Congress but after Gandhi he became whole and sole of Congress

Entire Congress came in his pocket

After 1946 and specially after Partition, Popularity of Congress was going down and popularity of Hindu Mahasabha was increasing and there were full chances that Nehru and Congress could have lost elections of 1950

But this one killing changed everything and rest is history

With in 22 months, yes you read right, with in 1 year and 10 months of crime, in Nov 1949, Godse was hanged to death

Don't know why Nehru was in so hurry to hang Godse as soon as possible

The complete court proceedings were kept secret No thorough investigation was carried out

Herbert who caught Godse were never called for statement in court

Everything was kept secret and happened so quickly like they knew everything without even investigation

There were so many question that were never answered

1. When Godse has attempted to kill on 20th Jan (10 days before 30th Jan).
Police had arrested his team members.
Police was well aware of their plan.
Police got 60 opportunities to arrest Godse during 20th - 30th Jan, Why Police didnt arrest him ?

2. When Police was aware Gandhi's life was in danger, Why Police didn't provide any security to Gandhi on 30th Jan

3. From where did Godse get Beretta M1934 Serial number - 606824 Italian pistol. This pistol was with a British officer at England
Till now no answer of it

4. What was an American army officer was doing exactly at that location and why he didn't go on shock and he immediately caught Godse like he knew everything in advance

5. Three bullets were fired or four ?
Till now no answer. Some newspaper published four bullets but later

they changed

6. Some say Godse surrendered, some say Godse was caught by public, some say American caught Godse. What's truth
Why American officer was never called in court ?

7. Why Gandhi was not taken to Hospital ?

8. One BBC and one American journalist were eyewitness

They were deliberately sent there ?

9. How next day all newspaper of the world published a same story "A Hindu killed Gandhi" like a toolkit was shared by someone to entire media

10. Why Congress used death of Gandhi as great marketing event ?

11. Biggest beneficiary of this assassination was Nehru. Till Gandhi was there, Congress was party of many freedom fighters but after that it came in pocket of Nehru and still is in pocket of his family members

12. Biggest loser was Hindu revival which doomed

13. Most Important - Why Post mortem of Gandhi was never conducted. Why entire court proceedings were conducted in hurry and secretly ?

Someone filed RTI for charge sheet of Gandhi's assassination trial in 2015 and he got reply that "Charge sheet is missing"
