The EAST team has taken a good step here, but to be relevant for fusion, the tokamak also needs to operate at high performance — like the difference between completing a two-hour run and going for a two-hour walk. 2/3
Unfortunately, there’s no scientific paper accompanying this press release. But if this is anything like the machine's previous results, its triple product — a measurement that captures several dimensions of fusion capability — would put the project at milestone two in the six-step fusion framework to track power progress (cfs.energy/news-and-media…). I look forward to seeing the publication, and to what the team does next. 3/3
