I appreciate Tulsi Gabbard’s engagement with me on a variety of issues to ensure that our intelligence professionals will be supported and policymakers will receive unbiased information under her leadership.
I have done what the Framers envisioned for senators to do: use the consultative process to seek firm commitments, in this case commitments that will advance our national security, which is my top priority as a former Marine Corps intelligence officer.
Having now secured these commitments, I will support Tulsi’s nomination and look forward to working with her to protect our national security.

WWII concluded 75 years ago today with the surrender of Japan. Like other Americans, when Hoosiers heard the news they formed parades & marched up their streets. They gathered in their town’s centers to celebrate & cry. They draped bunting & hung flags from businesses and homes.
In Indianapolis, men and women in uniform filed up Meridian Street, while thousands of citizens packed Monument Circle, some even wading into the fountains of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Nearby giant Vs – for victory – emblazed the front of L.S. Ayers and Company.
The celebration was well-deserved for soldier and citizen alike. Four trying years had passed since America joined the fight to defeat totalitarianism. Over 400,000 of its citizens died for that cause – nearly 12,000 of them Hoosiers.
In response to my letter to @POTUS yesterday asking for answers on reports of Russia bounties for U.S. troops – I was invited to review intelligence materials and receive a briefing in the Situation Room with the DNI and national security advisor. Here's what I learned:
The administration, acting through @EsperDoD, took active and appropriate measures in response to unverified and inconclusive intelligence to ensure proper force protection of service members in Afghanistan.
Major national newspapers, including the @NYTimes and @WashingtonPost, reported unverified and inconclusive intelligence as though it had been conclusively determined that Russia paid bounties on US troops.
