With new, expansive censorship laws on the books, the EU can now effectively force American companies to take down posts globally, including in the United States.
🧵 THREAD:
Under recent European case law, a European country can order a takedown globally.
Read for yourself cases from Europe’s highest courts including the European Court of Justice:
After major events—even if the event takes place outside the EU, such as the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attacks—the European Commission sends a letter to American tech companies with burdensome requests for information on how they plan to censor “disinformation.”
Sometimes, the European Commission will even reach out before the event happens.
In August 2024, European Commissioner Thierry Breton, at the time in charge of the EU’s censorship law, the Digital Services Act (DSA), sent a threatening letter to X before Elon Musk’s interview with President Trump.
Breton warned X that the DSA gives the EU a massive “toolkit” to punish companies, including authorizing massive fines up to 6 percent of the company’s global revenue.
With the DSA on the books, the EU can weaponize it to pressure Big Tech to comply with their censorship demands, potentially even global takedowns.
If Europe or anyone else can demand online posts be taken down globally, free speech and the First Amendment are gone in America.
The House Judiciary Committee is standing up for American sovereignty.
Last month, we wrote to Breton’s replacement, European Commissioner Henna Virkkunen. politico.eu/article/jim-jo…
The Censorship-Industrial Complex is now transnational.
@mtaibbi, @shellenberger, and @rupasubramanya are testifying today about the censorship threats from around the world and how they risk infringing on Americans’ liberties here in the U.S.
The Committee and @Weaponization uncovered overwhelming evidence of government-driven censorship on social media platforms over the last two years.
The censorship-industrial complex is now on its heels.
But our work’s not done.
🧵recapping our censorship investigation to date & what’s next.
The Committee’s work has changed Big Tech and the “disinformation” censorship industry.
Mark Zuckerberg sent a letter to @Jim_Jordan admitting the Biden White House pressured Facebook and Instagram to censor content and that they complied with those requests.
Zuckerberg has pledged Meta won’t do it again.
Last month, Meta announced it’s replacing its “fact-checking” program with a Community Notes model for its U.S. platforms and effectively ended automated censorship of political speech on Facebook.
This new report reveals how, under the Biden-Harris Administration, the FBI and the Treasury Department have manipulated federal laws like the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) to access Americans' private financial data—without a warrant.
It all started after a whistleblower told the Committee that following January 6, Bank of America (BoA) voluntarily provided the FBI with a list of individuals who used BoA cards in the DC area during that time—𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬.
When Finnish police brought her in, they interrogated her on the meaning of the Bible!
Päivi and her supporters maintained positivity throughout her interrogations: “Räsänen is once again going to have a Bible study at the police station.”
🚨 NEW REPORT: “Quiet Amnesty: How the Biden-Harris Administration Uses the Nation's Immigration Courts to Advance an Open-Borders Agenda”
This damning report details how Kamala Harris has exploited immigration court proceedings, allowing nearly 1 million illegal aliens to remain in the U.S. indefinitely.
Under “Border Czar” Kamala Harris, over 700,000 illegal aliens have had their cases dismissed, terminated, or administratively closed.
The pace of these actions has increased each year, allowing those aliens to stay in the country indefinitely without facing immigration consequences.
Kamala Harris has used the backlog as an excuse to allow even more aliens to remain in America.
Instead of adjudicating cases based on the merits of their claims—such as valid asylum requests—immigration judges have rubberstamped dismissals, terminations, and closures.
This quiet amnesty has become a hallmark of the Biden-Harris Administration's immigration courts.
