Here are some genuine fake news that the Whitehouse now spouts: 1. We have given over double what Europe has to Ukraine. ❌ In fact Europe has given more. 1/3
2.Zelensky claims he doesn’t know where half the donations have gone so they must be corrupt . ❌ A large proportion of aid has actually been spent by donor nations on their own replacements of gifted kit. So some large sums are “spin”. The US for example has sent only $100 bn of the $175 bn as direct aid to Ukraine. 2/3
and spent at least $25bn on its own replenishment. 3. Ukraine started the war..❌this claim is straight out of the Kremlin talking points. Russia invaded in 2014 and 2022. Putin’s amateur essay revealed it all the previous year. 3/4
I think what President Trump is learning is that if you have no skin in the game you don’t get to decide the fate of Ukraine. I am sure they all enjoyed their 4 hour talks today but they probably shouldn’t have wasted their time. 4/4

Things to remember and to watch for in Washington today. 1. It is assessed by many Military leaders in Nato , UK & US that for Putin to take by force the 4 Oblasts will take a further 2 million Russian Casualties & 4.4 years. Without Trump , Putin doesn’t hold all the cards 1/9
2. We must be careful that “Security Guarantees” are not the goal in themselves they must be guarantees that protect a “just” peace acceptable to Ukraine as well. NOT Putin’s idea of peace where he concedes nothing. 2/9
If we find ourselves policing a border that suits only Russia strategically we risk tying up ‘000’s of Western Troops while the Kremlin re-arms and threaten us all elsewhere. It is likely Russia will use “non-aligned militia” to seize and provoke on the front line 3/9

@AllisonPearson Here are some facts Allison, 1. The reason we ran checks on applicants was to protect the UK public. This meant we were often criticised for being “too slow”. We removed hundreds of people from all the lists. 1/9
In my time there were two schemes. 1. ARAP for those that had directly helped our troops and put themselves at risk. 2. And a wider Home Office scheme for Asylum. I dealt with the ARAP scheme in the MOD. The whole cabinet. Opposition and Reform supported it. 2/9 Image
As the Taliban took over we had to use a range of methods and intelligence to verify true applications. There were a lot of bogus ones but amongst the claims were people that saved British soldiers lives and were in danger. 3/9

There will still be Standard Data Protection, and your data will be encrypted and protected by Apple in the cloud but if requested by law enforcement it means they also have a key to it. It is only in the last two years we have had ADP and not many use it. 3/14

Slava Ukraini! We must never let Putin win and never stop supporting those brave men and women fighting to defend their country and us. As North Korean troops prepare to aid Russia we need to wake up and realise there is a real axis of evil and it threatens us all. 1/7
Will the budget give Defence the tools to do the job? To support our Allies? I doubt it. Labour had a choice. They chose to spend the money on other priorities. Some may say good but I say conflict is coming to the West and we need to be ready to stand up for our values. 2/7
An ill equipped armed force, hollow and without enablers ends up in Snatch land rovers. I fought and got £32bn extra for Defence on my watch. We need a continued rise through to 2030 to achieve all we set out in the Defence Command Papers. 3/7

Yesterday i was contacted by Hannah O’Grady, a producer at @BBCPanorama knowing I was due to appear in front of Judge-led Public Inquiry into actions by SF in Afghanistan over 10 years ago. She gave me 24hrs to answer 6 questions. She also knows I am no longer a Minister 1/8
so getting access to records from years ago takes time. But this isn’t really about the answers for the BBC I suspect. The questions are leading and inaccurate and some straight out of a conspiracy theory. She knows I am due to appear in front of the public inquiry on Monday. 2/8
I established this Judge-led Independent inquiry precisely to make sure we all got to the bottom of the allegations that have swirled around UK SF from 2010/11. In my time I appointed two former judges and a former Chief Constable to examine the case. 3/8
