Since it's still being repeated even today, I feel a need to make a reference thread debunking the "Pachamama" hoax that was perpetrated against Pope Francis and the Vatican by lying Sedevcantists and Protestants and believed largely by traditional Catholics. 
The event that this all spiraled out from was a prayer service in the Vatican Gardens where Pope Francis met with missionaries and tribal representatives from the Amazon River Basin region of South America for a time of prayer and reflection on the missions.
The event was hosted by the Global Catholic Climate Movement, Pan-Amazonian Ecclesiastical Network, and the Order of Franciscan Friars Minor, of which most missionaries in the region are Franciscans.
The prayer service planted commemorative trees in the Vatican Gardens, spoke about the need to end illegal logging and mining in the region, mourned the loss of and prayed for the repose of Catholics murdered by illegal logging and mining syndicates and their thugs.
It was also an opportunity for tribal leaders of local tribes to meet the Pope and present him with gifts. Many chose plants or flowers from their region that had specific meaning to their tribe, some chose traditional feathered headresses or symbols of their people.
Tribal Catholics who would never have been able to make pilgrimage to Rome on their own were able to see the center of the faith they had converted to and meet a man they had only seen in pictures. One particular tribe brought several symbols of the region.
A canoe and paddle as a symbol of the main mode of transportation in tribal regions up and down the Amazon and it's tributaries. A traditional fishing net to represent the food the river peovides and lifestyle of the river people and a carved image
This image is of a pregnant indigenous woman kneeling and holding her unborn child. The image was presented to Pope Francis and he blessed it after which Cardinal Turkson made remarks on ecological stewardship and the need for a clean and thriving natural environment
Many Anticatholics came up with the idea this was an idol of a god called Pachamama. They spread that Pope Francis bowed down and worshipped this image and prayed pagan prayers to it. None of which happened. The only words the Pope spoke in prayer were the Our Father.
This characterization of events is false and entirely concocted. Firstly Pachama was a goddess worshipped among the Incans of the Andes Mountains and not found among any Amazonian Pre-Columbian religions. The Incans and tribes of the Amazon share no similarities
Native Andes civilizations and Amazonian ones are quite different in language, history, culture, and beliefs. Alleging an Incan goddess among the Amazonians is like saying that Beijing China is a Muslim city because Islam exists in Asia. Totally wrong and low IQ
Images of Pachamama created by the Incans as idols are iconographically totally different. There is no continuity of image or similarity in appearance between the two. Any anthropologist would tell you this theory is elementary at best and not grounded in reality.
So what exactly is the image seen in the Vatican Gardens? Well similar to the canoe and the net its a symbolic representation of life in the Amazon River Basin. It is not an indigenous idol in fact it was introduced to the tribes by the Franciscans.
Franciscan missionaries saw similar work for sale as art by a wood carver in a Spanish speaking town and thought it would be nice for the tribes to have and purchased it. The image depicted did not originally come from a tribal context at all.
It has become for the Catholic tribes a symbol of themselves as a people and of their home. It represents them and their lifestyle as Amazonians in a symbolic way it is not a religious object of worship and certainly not a tribal god of any kind.
Our Lady of the Amazon does exist and is a Marian title. It's not a byword for a goddess but is a title of the Virgin Mary to whom prayers were addressed at this event. Our Lady of the Amazon looks like this Nostra Senora Aparacita de la Amazonia. The liars never showed this pic
Our Lady of the Amazon is an old Marian title from when the Portuguese first began to explore and settle the river mouth. There's even a statue in the Vatican Gardens of this Marian title made out of welded scrap metal as a message on recycling.
Those who spread this pernicious lie of Pachama idol worship in the Vatican will pay at the Last Judgement. People apoatacized and left the faith over a fake news bullshit story concocted to smear the Catholic faith.
If you condemn one Francis for even being in the presence of a symbol of life and the earth you MUST consider Francis of Assisi a pagan idolater because he literally prayed to God through Mother Earth as an intermediary in his canticle prayers.
