Chamath is riding high these days. Popular podcast host. Cozying up to Trump and Elon.

But he has never been held accountable or apologized for his INSANE grifting streak over 5 years.

It was predatory, and it was wrong.

A thread on @chamath the "SPAC King" 🧵
1. Virgin Galactic

• Chamath took $SPCE public via SPAC in 2019, hyping it as the future of space tourism

• Retail piled in, driving stock to $60+ in 2021

• Chamath dumped ALL his personal shares for $213M in 2021, right before the stock crashed

• Today SPCE is under $2. Image
2. Opendoor

• Chamath merged his SPAC IPOB with $OPEN in 2020, calling it the “Amazon of real estate.”

• Stock hit $34 in early 2021 thanks to Chamath’s marketing

• By 2022, the company lost $1.4B in a single quarter, laid off 18% of its workforce

• OPEN now under $3 Image
3. Clover Health

• Chamath’s IPOC merged with $CLOV in 2021, touting it as the future of Medicare insurance

• Hindenburg Research exposed Clover for hiding an active DOJ investigation just days after it went public

• Stock hit $28 in early 2021 before crashing to $0.80. Image
4. SoFi

• IPOE merged with $SOFI, hyped as a “fintech revolution.”

• Chamath cashed out $200M before insiders’ lock-up expired

• Stock hit $25, now trades under $9

• Still struggling with profitability & dilution issues Image
5. Multiplan

• Chamath’s IPOA merged with $MLPN, a healthcare tech company

• Stock collapsed from $10 to under $1.50 as revenue & growth failed to materialize Image
The list goes on...Chamath created 12 SPACs and hyped them relentlessly to retail investors, often young and inexperienced investors.

He made hundreds of millions by dumping shares at the peak while investors lost billions.

Chamath's response to the criticisms?

“I don’t care about what happens after the deal closes.”

He said on the All-In Podcast that his job was just to get deals done, not ensure they were good investments.

He is a financial predator that should be held accountable.

/🧵
PS: I am a believer that people can change, and that forgiveness should be extended to deserving.

@chamath is engaging in a PR blitz to rehabilitate his image.

But he has never admitted fault, shown contrition, asked for forgiveness from the thousands of investors that he hurt.
@chamath PPS: $SOFI is trading at $14.65 as of Friday close. I had the wrong price in my above post.
@chamath PPPS: @Josh_Young_1 has an excellent thread with many more examples of Chamath’s morally questionable behavior.
This thread has almost 3M views 🤯

Here is a video clarifying what I think was predatory about the @chamath SPACs

It is my belief that public figures with a huge audience have a moral obligation to give ample disclosures when they are pitching investments

Also expand on $SOFI

1999 was the peak of modern culture and progress.

This clip from the Matrix explains:

Why was 1999 selected as “the peak of your civilization”?

“Because as soon as we started thinking for you it really became our civilization.”

A thread written by a GenX'er 🧵
The USA had won the cold war and 9/11 had not happened yet.

Capitalism and democracy had won. Decisively.

Terrorism and the surveillance state that it brought with it had not yet occured.

Stone Temple Pilots performing August 2001, man we had no idea what was coming....
Race relations where the best I had ever seen during this time.

The civil rights battles were won. No discussions about DEI. No one had heard of critical race theory.

Schools were genuinely trying to create colorblind environments. We did not have segregated spaces. Image

The entry-level job market is getting nuked by AI.

• 500+ online applicants
• 90% auto-rejected by AI
• Big Tech cut new grad hires 25% last year

The game is rigged against you digitally.

Tilt the odds in your favor by exploiting the analog loophole.

🧵Image
Dario Amodei, Anthropic CEO, predicts AI could wipe out 50% of white-collar junior roles in 1-5 years.

In 2024, new grads were just 7% of Big Tech hires.

That's a 25% drop on 2023 and down 50% from 2019 (SignalFire)

Friends at Mag7s say they're freezing juniors due to AI. Image
We're heading toward something I call "AI jail."

- You use AI to write your resume.
- HR depts use AI to screen and rank it
- Zero humans involved in your career decisions

Soon: AI job-seeking agents vs AI HR agents in a relentless 24/7 loop

No humans talking.

My friend’s 10 year old daughter killed herself after being relentlessly bullied.

She was a classmate of my niece in Roanoke.

It is heartbreaking and unbelievable. 10 years old.

The Bushman family wants to get this message out to help others.

Cyber bullying is now 24/7. Image

I was talking to another friend from high school yesterday who was also friends with the Bushman’s, and he said his ten year old daughter was similarly targeted.

Some girls made a “fuck [daughters name]” text group, added her to it, and showered her with abuse.

Her mom approached the ringleader’s mother, and she shrugged it off and said the kids need to work it out amongst themselves.

I think most of us are probably not aware to watch for this at such a young age. But as parents we must.

If you give them a screen, lock it down, monitor the hell out of it, and be direct and demanding with other parents and the school.

I was a member of different entrepreneurial groups like EO for years.

Now I am a member of a few groups and friend circles of folks that have built companies and had successful exits. Many are Ultra high net worth people.

I would like to share a few observations. 🧵
All anyone ever talks about is health, marriage, family.

Because thats all that fucking matters.

Yeah we talk some business. But not much.

These groups are mainly support groups. Because founding and running businesses is scary and lonely.
Every one of us wishes that we had treated ourselves better during the crazy times of growing a startup.

We wish we had slept more. Ate better. Worked out more. Worked less.

A lot of us are in bad shape now. Some of my friends are already dead from stress related health stuff

We own 550 acres along the Shenandoah River. The property is zoned timber (i.e. “in land use”) and has very low property taxes.

This property is also one of the larger parcels with no conservation easements - we can do what we like.

If you can find a similar property with low carrying costs and flexible zoning, it gives you tons of optionality. You can enjoy it in its natural state as we do, you can develop it, you can hold onto for generations without spending a ton of cash to keep it.

My kids always ask “will we own this one day?” And I say yes.
People are vibeing on this post so I will take you on a little tour.

We have built a number of things on this property over the years.

First was an orchard with apples, pears, cherries, mulberry, plums, hops, grapes, and a bunch of other stuff.

8ft deer fence.

We added a geothermal greenhouse and grow citrus, avocado, bananas, cucumber, tomato, etc. 3/n

We call the farm “Kingdom Come” due to this inscription on a ruin.

A short thread on the odd link to my property and the first book to sell 1 million copies in the US (other than the Bible) 1/n ImageImage
This ruin (since restored by me) sits on a beautiful limestone cliff high overlooking a bend on the Shenandoah River. The inscription on the chimney reads “Kingdom Come - 1924 - WCM - EFM” Image
There is a deck (also rebuilt), and stone steps going down to a cave, with cold spring water filling a stone pool that then flows into the river.
