TODAY'S AI NEWS: T-Mobile's parent is developing an 'AI phone' with Perplexity

T-Mobile's parent, Deutsche Telekom, announced an AI phone with Perplexity

Set to launch later this year under $1K, the AI device will tap Perplexity Assistant to eliminate usual app-based navigation

It will also have AI tools from Google, ElevenLabs, and PicsArt
Anthropic closed a $3.5B Series E funding round, tripling its valuation to $61.5B

Led by Lightspeed, the round will help Anthropic expand computing resources, strengthen AI safety research, and accelerate international expansion
Microsoft debuted a new AI assistant for healthcare

Dragon Copilot combines voice dictation with ambient listening to automate clinical documentation and other tasks

Can save approx. 5 min per patient encounter, leading to reduced burnout and fatigue
xAI's latest version of Grok-3 topped the LM Arena leaderboard

With over 3K votes and a score of 1412, it dethroned OpenAI's new GPT 4.5-Preview as the #1 model

No other model except these two has crossed the 1400 mark yet
Google's Project Astra live video and screen-sharing capabilities will begin rolling out on Android this month.

However, the feature will be strictly limited to Gemini Advanced subscribers with the Google One AI Premium plan
The world's biggest chip manufacturer, TSMC, will invest $100B in the U.S. for five new factories

Three of these will be aimed at manufacturing while the other two will be packaging facilities

NEWS: DeepSeek just dropped ANOTHER open-source AI model, Janus-Pro-7B.

It's multimodal (can generate images) and beats OpenAI's DALL-E 3 and Stable Diffusion across GenEval and DPG-Bench benchmarks.

This comes on top of all the R1 hype. The 🐋 is cookin' Image
For those wondering my quick take on what's happening right now with R1 and Janus

1. GPU demand will not go down
2. OpenAI is not done for, but Open source and China are showing they're far closer than anticipated
3. There's way too much misinfo being spread by mainstream media right now (almost seems on purpose?)
4. DeepSeek open-sourcing R1 is still a huge gift to developers and overall AI progress

I haven't seen this much confusion and uncertainty on my TL for ages...
