The Chicago City Council is the legislative branch of the government of the city of Chicago. And consists of the Mayor and Alderman elected from each of the city's 50 Wards.
The City Council meeting started at 10:21am on Wednesday March 12, 2025. 40 members were present for a quorum. 2 Alderman Robinson and Sponda were present remotely.
Former Alderman Ms. Shirley Coleman did the Invocation.
During the public comment period each person had 3 minutes to speak. Jessica Lee pleaded with the council to vote for the New Fur ban in the city. She stated that the animals were treated cruel and inhumane.
Matthew King from the Christian Animal right organization shared that 100 million animals a year are killed for their fur. Fur Farm animals are abused and die painful deaths. As a country who founded on God who gave humans dominion over the animals we should be protecting them.
Samantha Swick called for the Fur Ban in Chicago. She said COIVD was found in mink farms. Also there were 125 viruses found in several fur farms. 75% of the viruses are able to be transmitted between animals and Humans.
Jasmine Smith an Activist talked about the police corruption in the city. Miracle Boyd was attacked by the police and has not been received retribution for her injuries. The City is divided and that the black and brown youth are being killed and no one cares.
Thomas Vencell was in favor of the city council voting against the New Fur ban. We will have world compassionate city.
Noren Lody said that California passed the New Fur ban in 2023. 71% of Americans are against fur farms.
Kaylee Harris we should be part of the solution and not part of the problem. We need to work together and not against each other to make the city a better place for everyone.
Alderman Moore recognized members of the 8th Infantry of the Illinois National Guard.
Chairman Harris acknowledged the Olive Harvey women's basketball team. They won the NJACC championship. Their record was 32-1. They will be playing North Dakota State.
Resolution for Sigma Gamma Rho for 100 years of service was passed.
Resolution to recognize the retirement of Jamie Ree. She was over the Department Aviation. 30 years of public service was acknowledged.
