Today, we learned the UCP government fired the entire AHS Board on the same day they were set to receive a report on shady contracts. Now, new allegations point to political interference, corruption, and kickbacks at the highest levels.
My response 🧵⬇️ /1
The CorruptCare scandal grows deeper and deeper each day. The government needs to act now to clear the air and call a proper public inquiry.
Why are they so scared? /2
Today, we learned that the Health Minister fired the board of AHS the very day they were supposed to receive the results of an investigation into the shady contracts.
We learned that members of that Board wrote a letter to the Auditor-General alleging gross government interference in AHS decisions before they were fired. Adriana LaGrange’s position is now untenable, and she must be fired. /3
We also have new allegations from the former head of Alberta Health Services that suggest an even deeper, more nefarious coverup than Albertans realized.
More ministers are involved.
More political staff are implicated. /4
The allegations of political interference, corruption, and kickbacks are so deep that this scandal cannot be battered down by a phony investigation that runs out of the Premier’s office. Her very office is deeply implicated in the CorruptCare scandal.
Danielle Smith’s government is deep in a pit of deception, and they need to stop digging themselves deeper. /5
First, the Premier must fire Adriana LaGrange. She is demonstrating every day that she is the worst Health Minister in Alberta’s history.
Second, all documents, including the forensic audit partially prepared by a local law firm, must be handed over to the RCMP and Alberta’s Auditor General.
Third, and most importantly, these serious allegations mean the Premier must call a fully independent, judicial-led public inquiry. /6
Albertans deserve so much better than this unethical, incompetent government.

My response to the United States of America’s new tariffs on Canadian goods 🧵⬇️
For decades, the US has been our steadfast ally and single most important trading partner. Today, the President’s actions have damaged the special relationship our countries hold. This trade war will hurt us all.
Since the President first announced the threat of tariffs, the Premier has consistently taken the wrong approach. Danielle Smith has failed Alberta - again. /2
Danielle Smith thought her balls-and-parties tour of Mar-a-Lago and Washington D.C. would get Albertans a reprieve from devastating tariffs that will wreak havoc on our jobs, our industries and our way of life.
She failed, and threw other Canadians under the bus while failing. /3
As he has said all along, President Trump has issued tariffs that will wreak havoc on the Canadian economy, attacking the single most important trade relationship Canadians have with the world.
These tariffs will have a devastating impact on our jobs, our economy, and our way of life. /1
So where is our Premier?
Make no mistake, Danielle Smith’s Washington D.C. selfie tour and balls-and-parties charm offensive has failed every Albertan and every Canadian. /2
While lower tariffs on oil and gas are welcome, other sectors in Alberta will face devastating 25% tariffs, including agriculture and manufacturing.
For example, this government has failed to take proactive measures to safeguard our producers, promote our agricultural products, and ensure Alberta remains competitive on the global stage. /3
Look, I know this is a pretty minor scandal as UCP scandals go but it's sticking in my craw. Overly long 🧵 follows. So the Associate Minster for the status of women was the head judge 🧵 newsweek.com/womans-essay-c…
And the other judges were unnamed UCP MLAs (no NDP MLAs were invited, even for something so simple and nonpartisan as an essay contest. Which shows how partisan this government is). The first statement implied the minister didn't really read the essays she judged. /2
Which irritates me because, well, take your elected job seriously and do the damn work you signed up for as trivial as it may seem. But wait! Her subsequent statement said "the process failed" implying she did read it ... and agreed with it, I guess? Or thought it was so good /3
Our hearts and our love are with you and your community, @ldnontmayor. I hope this spurs all of us to think about how we fight racism and religious bigotry in our own communities. All of us. Every day. Against terrorism like this. Against the smaller things too. 1/
A grandmother. A mum. A dad. A teenager. All gone. A little boy seriously injured. Because of their faith. An act of terrorism. In our country. Unthinkable. Shocking. We are all sad and we are all angry. And yet. And yet. 2/
Every day in this country, Muslim women who wear a hijab are harassed and abused. In Québec, they are even restricted from certain jobs (as are Sikh men and some observant Jewish people) because of their faith. In this country. 3/
1/ I know people are very nervous about the COVID situation — I am too— but please don’t wait for government to tell you to do the right thing. In addition to the stuff you’ve been doing — was your hands, wear a mask, keep distance, get a flu shot — it’s time to do more.
2/ Now it’s time to collapse your bubbles and restrict your contacts. Make decisions with a lens of safety — can I delay this activity? Can I do it in a safer way? Stay home as much as you are able, to protect those who cannot.
3/ and support local business in whatever way you can. If you have the means, get in your Christmas shopping now, using curbside pickup and delivery from local stores where you can. Let’s help local business get through this too. Share and promote your favourites using #loveyyc
Today, City Council took the necessary step to mandate the wearing of masks inside all public space as of August 1. This wasn’t an easy decision; when our Council meeting started on Monday, we were only going to be making this mandate on Transit.
But after an amazing presentation by Dr. Raj Bhardwaj coupled with the doubling of our active cases over the past week, 12 members of your City Council were convinced.
We’re doing this for a lot of reasons.
Firstly, we’re doing this to ensure public safety. Wearing a mask won’t protect you as the wearer, but it will protect others from you. And when we create that phalanx, together, we’re all keeping each other safe, and that improves our strength and resiliency.
