Happy Cheti Chand! Today , we celebrate the 1075th Prakash Utsav of Jhulelal Ji, the Day of Sindhu, and Sindhi New Year. May Lal Sain bless us with peace, prosperity & unity. Let's honor our roots & traditions! A thread on Sindhu’s worship, Jhulelal Ji & today’s rituals🧵
Sindhu: The Oldest Deity of Sindh
Sindhu, the mighty Dariya, is the ancient most deity of Sindhis, Lohanas, and Seraikis. Before gods had names, our ancestors—hunter-gatherers of 6,500 BC—worshipped the Sindhu Dariya, the lifeblood of an arid land, sustaining us through millennia
In Sindh’s dry expanse, where rains were scarce, permanent water sources became sacred resting places along ancient migration routes, like Mehrgarh (6,500 BC). Places like Alore, Nasarpur, Udero Lal, Hinglaj—evolved into centers of Dariya worship.
Sindhu’s Gift to Civilization
By 4,000 BC, Sindhu’s inundations sustained the Indus Valley Civilization. Its periodic floods assured food through barley and grains, celebrated in Ekhana festivals. The river, creating a& destroying, was revered as the universe’s origin.
Sites like Hinglaj, Jherruck, and Nagar Parker grew as centers of reverence, honoring Sindhu’s floods as a divine gift. These annual inundations brought fertile silt, transforming deserts into life-giving lands for prehistoric Sindhis.
By 4,000 BC, Sindhu’s floods sustained the Indus Valley Civilization. Feeding grains like barley for Ekhana festivals, it was the universe’s origin—a deity with a lotus from its navel on a fish—creating and reshaping Sindh’s destiny.
Sindhu, revered as Lohana Darya, is a living deity to Sindhis. Its floods are a sacred clock—rising in Chet (March), peaking in Sawan (July-Aug), retreating by Bhado (Aug-Sep)—guiding life and rituals along its banks.
Sun temples like Multan’s (once Molo-Sthana-pura, City of the Sun) and Laki’s Surya Kund saw the Sun rise from Sindhu daily, uniting light and water. Fairs at Sukkur and Udero Lal swelled with devotees honoring its divine flow.
In 10th-century Thatta, tyrant Mirkh Badshah forced Hindus to convert or die. Desperate, they prayed by Sindhu Dariya for 3 days. A divine voice answered: “In 8 days, I’ll be born as Uderolal in Nasarpur.” Thus, Jhulelal, the savior of Sindhis, incarnated to protect our ancestors
On Cheti Chand, 950 CE (Vikram Samvat 1007), Jhulelal Ji was born to Mata Devaki and Ratno Rathi in Nasarpur. Named Uderolal, his cradle swung miraculously by Sindhu’s grace—earning him “Jhulelal,”.
Jhulelal Ji confronted Mirkh Badshah. When soldiers came, he appeared from Sindhu with an army, then defeated him. Floods and flames subdued the tyrant, who relented in awe of his power. Jhulelal Ji’s victory restored peace, preserving Sindh’s spirit.
Jhulelal Ji embodies Jal (water) and Jyoti (light). Jal, Sindhu’s essence, flows in Behrana Sahib’s kalash, offered as life’s source. Jyoti, his divine radiance, glows in lamps lit during Jyoti Jagayan, symbolizing protection and enlightenment—core to today’s reverence.
Now, 1075 years later, Jhulelal Ji’s Prakash shines. Also known as Amarlal or Darya Shah, he’s Sindhu incarnate, his legacy glowing in Udero Lal’s lamp-lit shrines: “Jeko chavando Jhulelal, tanhinja thinda bera paar.”
Let’s honor Sindhu and Jhulelal Ji, our Ishta Dev. Dance, sing, and embrace our roots—from ancient water worship to this vibrant day. Happy Cheti Chand to Sindhis, Lohanas, Seraikis, and all Sindhu’s devotees! Aayo Lal, Sabhain Hind- Sinh wasiyan Ja Bera hi Paar!

Bhagwan Jhulelal Ji is Sindhis Ishta Devata. HE is Avatar of Sri Varun Dev Ji who took avatar in Sindh to save Hindus from tyranny of MirkShah who has threatened Hindus either convert to Isl_m or die. His took avatar on the 1st day of Chaitra month, celebrated as चेट्रीचंड्र.
Hindus when asked to convert, ask MirkShah to give them 40 days time to think. For 40 days, Sindhis did tapasya on banks of river Sindh. On 40th day, Akshavani was heard " Fear not, I shall save you from the wicked Mirkshah.
After this revelation, Hindus went to MirkShah and told them about Akashvani. He challenged Hindus that Bhagwan is not gonna come down to earth but he would wait till birth of Jhulelal Ji and then would kill all the Hindus.
