If Google Drive wants you to pay for storage, do this first.
I went from 14.8/15GB to 4GB without deleting files.
I hope this helps you as it has helped me:
1. Find your biggest storage hogs across all Google services
Go to your storage management page:
- Visit one.google.com/storage
- See what's eating space across Gmail, Drive, and Photos
- Click on each service to see your largest files
Sort by "Storage used" to identify:
- Large videos taking 500MB–2GB each
- High-resolution photos in original quality
- Old ZIP files and PDFs you forgot about
Just identifying these saves you from random deletion.
2. Move large videos and files to external storage.
Download your biggest files instead of deleting them:
- Right-click large videos → Download
- Move them to an external hard drive or USB
Use free alternatives:
- MEGA (20GB free), Dropbox (2GB)
- Stack multiple free accounts if needed
Then delete from Drive:
- Select downloaded files → Delete
They're safe on your hard drive, not gone forever.
This alone freed 6GB for me without losing anything.
