We know now that Bucha was used as the main official argument to justify the rejection of the Russian-Ukrainian peace deal in Istanbul in April 2022 to fight on. This was the media explanation for why Ukraine can’t make peace with Russia and must fight on!
Bucha also gave the Ukrainian society a sense of cohesion and unity, to fight and defeat the Russians. So in that sense, Bucha was critical for the justification of the war.
In short, Bucha had tremendous propaganda value.

CNN: “Ukrainian national police showed us this mass grave in Bucha saying they believed up to 150 civilians might be buried here but no one knows the exact number people killed while the Russian army occupied this town”

IMPORTANT: The mass grave in Bucha was dug by Ukranian medics on the 10th March 2022

On the first day they buried 33 bodies. Essentially this means we should ignore the mass grave, if we want to look at Bucha events.

On the 12th March they buried 67 bodies of civilians.
Some bodies were unidentified, hence it’s not even clear if they’re civilians or Russian or Ukranians soldiers.

To this day you can go on the Facebook of the Ukranian medic Anton Dovgopol (Facebook profile-id=100003476294093) and see how he put bodies into the mass grave video.

If the Ukranians buried the dead there on 10th - 12th (or later) March, then the Russias did not had control (over that part) Bucha. Hence it cannot be part of the event in Bucha. Pure simple logic.
Further, the mass grave contains bodies of civilians from around the Kiev region, plus bodies of soldiers and even allegedly some bodies of Russian soldiers.
There was chaos, the cemeteries filled up quickly and some were unreachable due to the war. So the dug it to get the first wave of deaths into the ground.

The battle for Bucha was extremely heavy with many casualties. The Russian army was thrown out and went back in, multiple times and did not control the whole city for a long time. Many civilians stayed in the city.
