Ballerinas are athletes, just like sprinters or cyclists.
There is a reason you don’t see obese sprinters + cyclists winning Olympic medals
The same is true for why there aren’t obese professional ballerinas
It isn’t ‘fat-shaming’ — it’s the truth.
Stop lying to young dancers.
The level of strength and mobility required for ballet is such that it would be dangerous for obese people to go en pointe or perform difficult combinations.
Why? Because the extra weight they carry would put excessive strain on their joints and cause serious injury.
Ballet is one of the most demanding dance disciplines, requiring extreme flexibility, strength, mobility and stamina.
Even most healthy dancers experience joint problems.
20kgs+ of excess weight would destroy a ballerina’s knees and ankles.
