16 Sanskars are
1.Garbhadhan Sanskar: Ceremony of conception 2. Pumsavana Sanska : Fetus Protection
3. Simantonayan Sanskar : (Satisfying wishes of the pregnent mother 4. Jaatakarma Sansakar : Birth rituals 5. Naamkaran Sanskar : Naming Ceremony 6. Nishkraman Sanskar : Taking the child outside 7. Annaprashana Sanskar : First solid food given to child
8. Chudakarna or Mundan Sanskar : Hair cutting 9. Karnvedh Sanskar : Ear Piercing 10. Upanayana or Yagopaveet : Sacred thread ceremony 11. Vedarambh Sanskar: Study of Veda and scriptures 12. Samavartanamam : Completing education 13. Vivah Sanskar : Marriage
Although these shodasha sanskaras are of great significance, in modern times, only 4 of these sanskaras, namely jatakarma, upanayana, vivaha, and antyeshti, are commonly followed

In the Anushasana Parva of Mahabharata, Veda vyasa explains Vishnu Sahasranama which was advised to Yudhishtira by Bhishma.
Shri Krishna advices Yudhishtira to learn Dharma from Bhishma Pitamaha who was lying in arrow bed. Thus infront of Veda Vyasa, Krishna and other pandavas, Yudhishtira asks Bhishma many doubts :-
