A few observations... SNP, Liberal Democrat and Green councillors all referred to 'cis' women. Labour and Conservative councillors did not.
Labour councillor and council leader Jane Meagher was notably the only councillor to state clearly that providers should be able to offer single sex spaces and services for women *as a matter of policy*.
Motion tabled for next week's meeting of @Edinburgh_CC calls for council to "review its future SLAs and contracts with service providers offering support to people facing domestic abuse and sexual violence to make it clear that we expect services to be fully trans inclusive".
The motion has been tabled in response to the recent announcement by Edinburgh Women's Aid's decision to exclude all males from its adult group work services and shared refuge spaces, including its 24 hours refuge.
The motion has been tabled by Scottish Green councillor Alex Staniforth. Full papers for the meeting of the council on 20 March can be found here. democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/ieListDocument…
Vic Valentine of Scottish Trans has told a parliamentary committee that the advice and guidance they give to public bodies is not legal advice.
Vic Valentine claims not to understand what Pam Gosal MSP means by policies based on gender self-identification, despite Scottish Trans having successfully lobbied many public bodies to introduce such policies.
A few examples of public bodies that Scottish Trans successfully lobbied to adopt policies based on gender self-identification principles...
Scottish Green MSP Maggie Chapman on @LBC just now said that for the UK Government "even to threaten to act is entirely inappropriate" and they would be "playing roughshod with devolution". #GRRBill
Tom Swarbrick asked her if she thought children as young as eight should be able to change legal gender, to which she replied "we should be exploring that".
She went on to say that it is "very clear when we talk about sex being binary in GCSE...[it] is a gross over-simplification of what is going on" and we need to consider "how our bodies express hormonal relationships".
