My (our) experience with SoundCloud for Artists (previously Repost Network).

Featuring @SCforArtists, recommending @TooLostDistro
🧵
I’ve been using SoundCloud’s distribution offerings for quite some time now. I signed up for repost network before the acquisition and found it to be a better option than other ones that were available for indie artists at that time.
Coming from DistroKid, Repost was incomparably better. It had a way nicer UI/UX, faster support, better documentation. I swore by it for a long time.
Unfortunately, my experience slowly degraded over time. I’ve encountered some issues with profile mapping on Apple Music, releases on YouTube music not being mapped to my OAC, and when I had Music Videos / visualizers available, the track arts weren’t merged with the visualizers.
I’ve contacted support with these queries on multiple occasions but for all of these situations I’ve had to get in touch with the respective platforms directly, because SoundCloud support was either slow, entirely unresponsive, or just unhelpful.
I still have tracks on YouTube music that aren’t mapped to my OAC, and track arts that aren’t merged with the visualizers.
Very recently, I was tasked with distribution for a new volume of a community compilation, and decided to give SoundCloud one last chance, because moving to a new distributor & migrating old releases is a huge nuisance. I was taken aback by the experience I had.
Releases were rejected for issues with the cover art, so I opened up a support ticket. They took about a week to respond with “the rejections are justified”, seemingly without taking the additional context I’ve provided in the support ticket into account.
They also failed to answer the additional questions I asked in the original ticket, and any of the follow-up emails I sent.
While on paper, the rejections would technically be justified as the cover arts failed to comply (to the letter) of the style guidelines, the additional context should have disputed this.
Not to mention that when we released vol. 1 in 2023, the exact same issue was present on the covers, but those releases were accepted without a hitch.
While waiting for a response, I also resubmitted the rejected releases, because of time constraints. 2 days later, they were rejected again but to my horror, one of the release titles suddenly had a typo that I did not make. In what world could a QC department do this?
This is why moving forward, canvas (@canvasdotac), prism plaza (by @halfprism_), me and a number of artists in the community are moving off SoundCloud for Artists.
We are incredibly lucky to have received an amazing recommendation from @BennettBlogs for a new DSP, called Too Lost (@TooLostDistro).
The experience setting up the label, the artists, migrating old releases and scheduling new ones has been unmatched.
Delivery so far has been incredibly quick. I’ve even had to open up a support ticket right away due to a mistake I made and their support platform is nice to use (you can see whether a ticket is being worked on), and response was fast, even over easter.
To top it all off, their pricing is really competitive. We’ll see where Too Lost takes us.
TL;DR
SoundCloud sucks, we moved on to Too Lost.

Here's my pronouns page. Below I'll elaborate on some sections.

Over the past couple years since coming out, my gender has played a smaller and smaller role in my life, to the point where there are days where I don't really feel like anything at all. For this reason I've included both the Genderflux & Agender flags to my page.
