Thanks to the eight statisticians who all agreed to be named as agreeing with the criticisms of the key statistical claims made by the prosecution in the Lucy Letby case. In summary, there is now a strong consensus amongst the expert clinicians and statisticians who are prepared to be named publicly that the most plausible explanations for the collapses and deaths at the Countess of Chester Hospital do not involve deliberate harm. As ever, I leave my door open to clinicians and statisticians who are prepared to argue otherwise, but after 20 months of investigating this, I’ve yet to find anyone other than Dewi Evans who is prepared to go on the record to argue the only explanation for the deaths is murder. Every other expert I have spoken to says it is the least likely explanation.
