On Friday, @realDonaldTrump released his proposed budget for the federal government.
I read every page, with an eye specifically on how it would impact Hudson Valley families.
I could barely contain my anger by the end.
Here’s what concerned me the most.
🧵
TL;DR
The defining theme of Trump 2.0 has been screwing over communities like ours to benefit the wealthiest 0.1% of Americans.
Trump’s budget shows that the next year (and in all likelihood the next four) will be more of the same.
Okay, now let’s get into it.
Hudson Valley kids deserve to drink clean water.
For decades, GE dumped toxins into the Hudson River – which more than 100,000 people in #NY18 rely on for drinking water.
Trump cut $254M from the program leading the cleanup & $2.46B in clean water infrastructure overall.
Hudson Valley veterans deserve quality health care.
Trump’s VA closed 20 in-patient substance abuse beds at Castle Point.
Now, he’s cutting $1.65B from a substance abuse prevention initiative which includes programs SPECIFICALLY geared towards helping veterans.
Hudson Valley seniors deserve security in their golden years. But Trump is cutting:
674M for Medicaid/Medicare program management – making it harder to access benefits
$405M for helping low-income seniors find jobs
$425M for ensuring seniors meet their daily nutritional needs
Every Hudson Valley family deserves a home they can afford AND the energy to keep that home warm & the lights on.
Trump is cutting $26.72 BILLION from state housing grants and ENDING the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, throwing millions out into the cold.
This is all happening while Trump is:
▪️Pushing record breaking tax cuts for the richest 0.1% of Americans
▪️ Paid for by hundreds of billions of dollars in cuts to SNAP & Medicaid
While still adding trillions of dollars to the national debt!!!
I say it all the time.
More affordable, more safe, and more free.
That’s the Hudson Valley I want for your kids and for mine.
Hardworking families, able to afford a home.
Heroes who served in uniform, getting the health care they deserve.
Children, free to drink clean water and breathe clean air.
These numbers do not lie, even though the President may try to.
Trump’s budget makes our community less affordable, less safe, and less free.
I'll keep fighting like hell every day to protect Hudson Valley families from ANYONE who would do us harm.

I served two combat tours in Iraq. I know how these operations are supposed to go.
Top takeaways:
1) Hegseth definitively exposed CLASSIFIED war plans.
2) Hegseth must resign. IMMEDIATELY.
3) This is a cover-up at the highest levels of government.
Let me explain.
🧵
This level of operational detail— timing, strike package, battle damage assessment, and more — is 100% definitively, unequivocally CLASSIFIED information.
Sharing that on an unsecured network, EVEN WITHOUT A REPORTER, is a crime and put the lives of service members at risk.
Hegseth is blatantly lying (or is somehow even more clueless & incompetent than we all thought).
He must resign, IMMEDIATELY. And should lawyer up.
Trump’s first week was great if you’re a mega-billionaire or Oath Keeper.
It wasn’t so great for the rest of us.
I know a lot of folks are feeling down right now, & trust me, I get it.
But the battle lines were drawn. And here’s why I'm confident we can win this fight.
🧵
First, some important context.
Democrats got our butts kicked in November. No two ways about it.
We stopped meeting people where they were. We became the party of the elites, and folks felt that.
I know that doesn’t sound like good news.
But I'm optimistic because this week, we set the terms of the fight ahead.
A core group of Democratic leaders rose up IMMEDIATELY to make it clear we fight FOR the people and AGAINST the same corrupt elites who've been in power far too long.
It’s going to take time to sort through what happened Tuesday. But I've read a lot of takes the past few days (some good, many bad), and I've had a lot of people ask how I won one of the toughest districts in the country by over 13%.
Here are some thoughts: 🧵
First and foremost, if you're using the words "moderate" or "progressive," you're missing the whole f***ing point.
It's not ideological. It's about who fights for the people vs. who further empowers and enables the elites.
I called on Biden to step down and gave him hell for failing to secure the border. That doesn’t make me a “moderate.”
I campaigned with AOC and called out big corporations for screwing us over. That doesn’t make me a “progressive.”
I served two combat tours in Iraq. I have friends & fellow soldiers – heroes who gave their lives to protect our country – buried in Section 60.
This is sacred ground. We must not allow anyone to sully it with campaign theatrics. 🧵
Arlington Cemetery is the resting place for nearly 400,000 of our nation’s heroes, going all the way back to the Civil War.
That includes men and women we lost in Iraq and Afghanistan, whose final resting place is Section 60.
Ask any post-9/11 veteran. The entire cemetery is sacred, but Section 60 is in a special category. Sadly, you don’t have to walk many steps before you see the name of someone you know or served with.
