25 years ago or so, when I did patent litigation, there was a case called Moore v Standard Register (Fed Cir 2000) dealing w/a patent that had a claim requiring an adhesive (ie, glue) to cover a "majority" of the length of a surface. Seems simple. Apparently not...

My firm at the time defended the radical position that "majority" meant over 50%.
Here's a telling quote: "“...In this case, we hold that the applicant's use of the term "majority" is not entitled to a scope of equivalents covering a minority for at least two reasons. ...
4/x
... First, to allow what is undisputedly a minority (i.e., 47.8%) to be equivalent to a majority would vitiate the requirement that the "first and second longitudinal strips of adhesive . . . extend the majority of the lengths of said longitudinal marginal portions." [cite]
5/6
Second, it would defy logic to conclude that a minority- the very antithesis of a majority- could be insubstantially different from a claim limitation requiring a majority, and no reasonable juror could find otherwise....”
6/6
For anyone who cares, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals (the appellate court that hears patent appeals) got it right, ruling that a "majority" means more than 50%... maybe we should transfer all immigration appeals to the federal circuit? :)

1/ The most recent tough-sounding @realDonaldTrump ad is an infuriatingly false pile of double bull crap.
BullCrap1-> Look at this picture of the Trump ad:
2/ Trump is admiring fully armed troops coming out of a helo, suggesting Trump put armed forces on our border. In fact, the “troops” he put near (not on) the border were “armed” with paperclips, staplers and laptops, along w/ the occasional deadly set of binoculars
That’s it
3/ Troops always have “Rules of Engagement.” What were Trump’s rules? Don’t engage.
Seriously. Don’t Engage. And guess what? They didn’t engage. It was a pure political show.
Eric Adams declared winner of problem-plagued Democratic primary in NYC mayoral race washex.am/3yqWJhV
Look at what some of even the left wing dems say about this race and the failure of confidence in NY's election system.
First, one of the losing candidates (Wiley):
"It would be an understatement to express dismay at the BOE’s administration of this election ... Today we simply must recommit ourselves to a reformed Board of Elections and build new confidence in how we administer voting in New York City," she said.
@AOC, a Democrat representing parts of the Bronx and Queens who supported Wiley's candidacy, stood among a host of other New York Democrats who criticized the election board for its handling of the election following errors in tabulation.
If you listened solely to Democratic talking points & the so-called mainstream media, you would be convinced that America is a systemically racist & Republicans are hell bent on disenfranchising large swaths of voters. Both notions are patently false.
2/ In fact, in 2021 it is easier to register and vote now than at any point in American history – no matter what color your skin is. This is a measure of progress of which we should all be proud.
3/ Despite these facts, Dems in Congress have manufactured a myth of widespread voter suppression to impose a federal takeover of elections via #HR4, the #JohnLewisVotingRights bill, introduced (and never passed) in the last Congress as #HR4.
