This further development will further show Valen's trust in the slayer's power→insists on reviving the Slayer by any means necessary later in the story. And possibly a depiction of Marok and Valen's strained relationships regarding their different beliefs.
Valen is also the one who leads the Slayer to unlock a shield rune for him, which doesn't require any chanting and avatar state at all just like all the later shield runes...make it make sense.
But we can have a scene where the Sentinels and Valen draw power from the forge,
