Belief that Saves – What Does This Mean?
At the end of yesterday’s devotional, we referenced Jesus’ words from John 14:12 when He said “Assuredly I tell you that whoever believes in me will do even greater things than these”. One of the points of emphasis in this statement was His use of the initial word “assuredly.”
He is demonstrating once again the character of God in that He does not change. When He says something, we can trust most assuredly that it is true and that He never minces words.
But what does it mean to believe? It is often said that if we simply believe that Jesus is real,
then we are saved. Well, Satan and his angels believe that Jesus is real (they know it with certainty from first-hand experience). But yet they are condemned. Belief that saves, can move mountains and will do greater things than Jesus did is a belief that truly understands this
unchanging character about God and fully embraces it. It is a belief that trusts in His Word and in His promises and then responds accordingly. When we truly believe Him, we partake regularly of His word, listen to the Holy Spirit and follow the example and guidance that He gives
to us.
This leads us to gradually become more and more immutable like He is. But there is still more for us to understand about our immutability.
23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
24 Immediately the father of the child
cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” - Mark 9:23-24

How God Promises versus How We Promise – The Net Effect
God’s promises to us come with great authority… the greatest authority that exists and that has ever existed. Understanding this and embracing it in our hearts gives to us the power to endure through faith (hope or waiting on what He promised, even when it makes no sense to us).
Think about the example that He gives us in today’s scripture in the life of Abraham. Think about the example in the life of Job. Both men had struggles while they waited, but both men eventually saw the promise and were blessed. Both men experienced the “rescue”.

God’s Unchanging Nature Compared to Man’s – 2 Aspects
We previously discussed God’s immutability and how this character in Him is a tremendous blessing to us and a foundation of our faith… His promises are Yes and Amen! This morning let’s compare that with the same quality in you and me.
To our shame, man is the picture of change
because of our fallen nature. We all have our buttons and when they are pushed, we will change in a moment in order to satisfy our needs in that moment. This is also a characteristic that can be observed in all men (with the sole exception of One) all throughout the bible.
