1/ Yesterday in the NYTimes, a student (mis)quoted from memory something I said in class on October 12, 2023. That quote suggested that I do not support Palestinian resistance. While I’m not disputing that student’s memory, the Times didn’t include what I actually said🧵
2/this is what I remember telling my class on October 12, 2023, less than a week after Al Aqsa Flood:
3/ my politics have developed exponentially over the past 20 months, mostly due to: 1. Being in conversation with my Palestinian friends 2. Reading writing by Palestinian thinkers & artists 3. Following Palestinians (both in occupied Palestine and the diaspora) on social media.
4/I’m disappointed the Times didn’t include a quote from me BUT I would also say something very different now. I have worked hard to learn & change my mind these past 20 months. I do not always get it right and I’m grateful for everyone who has helped me to do better.
5/in my own politics (for those interested) I strive to center an anti-capital, anti-imperial approach that centers liberation & opposes supremacist ideologies like Zionism, a Jewish supremacist world view. I also live/was socialized in the US.
6/ I know I have a lot of work to do & this work doesn’t end until Palestine is free, from the river to the sea. And even then, it continues-there’s no justice within the logic of the Nation State.
7/ So much of our work is imagining (and then creating) a more just future. Not through peace but through liberation.

1/ Sharing my story with the NYTimes was not an easy decision. My north star goal is always liberation and a free Palestine. That led me to decide to participate in this article despite my concerns.
2/ The NYTimes is complicit in genocide, has manufactured consent for crimes against humanity, & has an active, ongoing agenda of dehumanizing Palestinians.
3/ I condemn the paper of record for their brazen & violent creation & circulation of genocidal rhetoric & propaganda.
1/ Yesterday’s discourse made very clear what many of us have known for years - antisemitism has been evacuated of all meaning & is now controlled by Zionists logic.
2/ When the term is weaponized by Zionists (whether Jewish, Christian, or any other group) to protect Zionists, Zionism, & the Zionist state, its use actively excludes anti-Zionist Jews, as well as actually Semitic people (like Palestinians)
3/ Language matters. Antisemitism is now a politically charged dog whistle used to further the dehumanization of Palestinians & justify the genocide in Gaza. Stop using this term as equivalent to hatred against Jewish (code for Zionist) people
1/ It’s important the media expose the violence being done by orgs like the Heritage Foundation, initiatives like Project Esther, & the Zionist project. Yesterday’s story in @nytimes did not do that, though - a long 🧵on what’s actually at stake here.
2/ While @nytimes failed to truly investigate the absurdity of a fictional “Hamas Support Network” & its implications, here’s a shadowy international conspiracy that is 💯 real:
3/ In April 2023, the Jewish Agency for Israel & @HillelIntl partnered to bring eight Hillel student leaders to Israel “for a week of high-level meetings with government officials, experiences with Israel’s civil society, & briefings with top geopolitical experts.”
1/ Apparently tix to the Met Gala are $50K each - imagine if every celeb donated that money to Gaza mutual aid & withdrew their labor until the genocide ended…. (oh wait, I forgot I live in the US, the most monstrous country ever)
2/ Some of us in the US spend our days watching children be starved to death by the Zionist State & some folks in the US cheer on genocide (or say noting about genocide) & a few plan outfits that cost more than most people make in a year.
3/ 100s of thousands of Palestinians are being murdered by the ZS in the most horrendous ways & 100s of thousands of Palestinians are facing the indifference of the world while their people are being slaughtered in the most horrendous ways
1/ Yesterday on the train, I saw a man wearing a bright blue baseball hat, Zionist flag embroidered on the front & sides. He was with his young children. All I could think as I stared at him with horror is how he believes his life is worth more than Palestinian lives,
2/ he believes his children’s lives are worth more than the lives of Palestinian children’s lives. Zionism is Jewish supremacy. The Zionist State is a Jewish supremacist state. Liberation requires the dismantling of this monstrous, hierarchical, & inherently violent world view.
3/ And liberation entails calling out & condemning Zionism, wherever we encounter it. Even in our own heart. Do you think your life is worth more than someone else’s life, simply because of the situation of your birth? Start with that monster inside you. We all have work to do.
1/ The ADL has consistently participated in the surveillance of social justice movements, including civil rights, anti-Apartheid, immigrant, farmworker, queer, Palestinian rights, & labor movements 🧵 bostonreview.net/articles/emmai…
2/ As early as the 1930s, the ADL has consistently partnered with government & law enforcement towards such ends. While claiming to be invested in civil rights, the org instead is actively undermining such movements.
3/ Instead of working to stop antisemitism, the ADL has consistently weaponized antisemitism in ways that not only undermined the real rise of antisemitism amongst contemporary right wing fascist movements, but also encourages the antisemitic positions these groups take on.
