“Grieving Mother” memorial in Kursk 🇷🇺
Last June, two separate walls were added. In February of this year, the second wall was still empty. However, in May ’25, three more were built, and all four were filled with names at once.
I don’t know if it’s wise to conclude 2024 already and list the names alphabetically... The names for 2023 have also been added now, so it starts twice with A.
Dynamics of losses by year:
2022 — 166
2023 — 342
2024 — 485
The situation a year ago, in July 2024 👇
The memorial was built in 1992, originally for soldiers killed in Afghanistan, where 3 258 residents of Kursk were deployed.
Two additional side walls were built in 2023 and quickly filled with the names of those killed in Chechnya, Syria, etc. (169) and Ukraine (331).

Vladimir Mikhailovich Podolyak, retired Russian Colonel and older brother of Mykhailo Podolyak, advisor to the Ukrainian President, died on 19 May 2024 at the age of 59.
The circumstances of his death are unknown. The Russians have not publicly reported this.
🧵
From the photo and the ribbon, we conclude that he was indeed an officer of the Russian military intelligence in the past, probably of the GRU’s 322nd Specialist Training Center in Moscow, where he had lived since 1986 or 1987.

Information about his work in the GRU surfaced as early as 2023 in an effort to label Mykhailo Podolyak as an FSB agent. He later confirmed to journalists in February 2024 that his brother was living in Moscow, but denied knowing about his brother’s work for the “KGB, FSB etc.”.

“Served in Ukraine from 2017 to 2019” means that Russia did not interfere at all, really at all, in the war in Ukraine before February. Ever. They really didn't.
That was fast! The post on VK has already been deleted.
