THREAD: It’s simple: President Trump’s militarization of Los Angeles is not about public safety; it’s about political retribution.
Here’s 6 times President Trump failed to take the same action during his previous Admin, including instances where fed assistance was requested:
Washington, D.C. (January 6, 2021)
Charlottesville, Virginia (2017)
Memphis, Tennessee (2019)
Minneapolis, Minnesota (2020)
Kenosha, Wisconsin (2020)
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2018)
President Trump continues efforts to turn the military into his own personal police force against American citizens in Los Angeles.
Prior to this week, President Trump and members of his Administration have repeatedly and publicly declared that a takeover of the National Guard would be illegal.
Local and state law enforcement have also stated that the military presence is exacerbating a situation that was otherwise under control.

Everyone knows that the President has spread California Derangement Syndrome (CDS) for many years — some say he was even patient zero — but in reality he loves California, @CAGovernor Gavin Newsom, and our world-leading policies! Trump copies our policies on the regular to bring the riches of California to all the American people.
Take a look ⬇️
CalRx — First announced in 2023, CalRx makes available insulin for just $11.
Last month (while still failing to introduce his health care plan after 10 years of promising), Trump debuted the SAD TrumpRx plan for his obesity drugs.
Coming soon…maybe?
Baby bonds — Savings accounts with FREE money for kids for college or their careers? @CAGovernor Gavin Newsom announced that — CalKIDS — way back in 2019.
Trump followed along, announcing his own “Trump Accounts” in 2025.
We’re glad to see Trump putting his name on a program and following California’s example for kids nationwide.
NEW: As Trump & RFK Jr. destroy the CDC’s credibility, @CAGovernor Gavin Newsom just announced California is teaming up with Oregon & Washington to launch a new “West Coast Health Alliance” to uphold scientific integrity in public health.
The alliance represents a unified regional response to the Trump Administration’s destruction of the U.S. CDC’s credibility and scientific integrity.
The absence of consistent, science-based federal leadership poses a direct threat to our nation’s health security. To protect the health of our communities, the West Coast Health Alliance will continue to ensure that our public health strategies are based on best available science.
As kids head back to classrooms for the new school year, here’s a look at 10 ways California’s nation-leading investments are supporting kids and reducing costs for families ⬇️
🥪 Universal Meals Program for School Kids:
Every student gets TWO free meals. California was the first state to implement a statewide Universal Meals Program for schoolchildren, providing all public TK-12 students access to two free meals per school day.
In September, Governor Newsom signed legislation to increase enrollment in state food assistance programs, reduce youth consumption of processed foods, and increase access to healthy, locally grown food in all California communities.
California also participates in the federal SUN Bucks food program which ensures that children in families with low incomes have adequate nutrition while school is out for the summer.
🍎 Farm to School:
Free school meals are becoming MORE nutritious. First Partner @JenSiebelNewsom championed efforts to develop the innovative California Farm to School initiative. California Farm to School works in tandem with universal school meals to ensure California students have access to two free school meals that are locally-sourced, delicious, and nutritious.
The last time @ElonMusk “moved” an HQ, @Tesla ended up expanding in California -- even relocating their Global Engineering & AI headquarters to California because of our diverse, world-leading talent.
The bill @CAGovernor Newsom signed into protects the child-parent relationship by PREVENTING politicians & school staff from inappropriately intervening in family matters & attempting to control if, when, & how families have deeply personal conversations.
Under California law, minors CANNOT legally change their name or gender WITHOUT parental consent & parents are GUARANTEED the right to access their students’ educational records.
This law:
Does NOT allow a student’s name or gender identity to be changed on an official school record without parental consent.
Does NOT limit a student’s ability to discuss their gender identity with their own family.
Does NOT take away or undermine parents’ rights. AB 1955 does not prevent families from having these conversations.
Does NOT allow teachers & school districts to hide information from parents.
About that “move,” let’s take a look at how Texas’ leadership “protect their children”:
- Homicide rate 29% higher than CA
- Gun death rate 78% higher than CA
- Infant mortality rate 39% higher than CA
- TX ranks #31 for gun safety (CA’s #1)
- TX has less law enforcement officers and pays them less than CA
Earlier this month, right-wing & Rupert Murdoch-owned outlets carried water for a corporate trade group pushing a false claim (disprovable at the time of their articles) no doubt to pad their profits.
And now, when presented with the facts & official @BLS_Gov data, they refuse to share the real story & POSITIVE IMPACT with their readers:
1) Job growth in the first 2 months of $20 min wage 2) Job growth every month of 2024 3) Job growth since @CAGovernor signed the bill last Sept.
We sent a note to their editors – but we haven’t heard back.
Wonder why.
@BLS_gov @CAgovernor .@NYPost, will your outlet continue to carry water for a debunked corporate trade group looking to pad their profits rather than report on the data showing the law has increased jobs and improved the lives of every day, hard-working Californians?
🌎THIS WEEK: California racked up a series of big climate wins, including new technology that cuts emissions from making cement and groundbreaking a clean energy project in tribal communities.
A California startup that just opened in Redding developed innovative technology to cut these emissions, capturing the carbon dioxide from when the cement is made and using it to make more cement.
